I've got a Compaq Presario 3015US (I think) laptop that's been giving me grief for some time now. It was originally purchased direct from compaq about 3 years ago. It came with two 256mb pc2100 ddr sdram modules installed; one crapped out about 8 months ago, the other died about a month after that. I replaced them with some Crucial ram sticks (same specs, etc.) and everything was running fine until a week ago.

The system had been randomly locking up, BSOD crashing, and throwing odd errors in windows. It eventually got to where it wouldn't even boot to the login screen without crashing. My first instinct was to run Memtest86+, as this was the same way it acted when the original RAM had died.

Several passes through came up with random errors in tests 3 and 4, and every time it hit 98% on test 5 I'd get a huge sequential string of errors (something like 17,000. give or take a 0 in there).

This is where it gets odd. I then tested each stick individually, in each slot, and came up with no errors at all. It was only when both sticks were installed did it give me the errors (regardless of which stick was in which slot). I left one stick in, and it's been running smooth for several days now.

So...any ideas? Oh, and I am running the latest BIOS (f.37).
