How long will it take...

Hi all, just I ordered my 9300 earlier in the day, around noon time EST. I was wondering how close is the estimated ship date to when the laptops usually arrive, mine is saying a week and 2 days from now to ship, which seems like a really long time to me. Just wondering what some of the ship times you guys have gotten on your newly ordered laptops.

Also, how bad will this setup blow the pants off my desktop with the specs of:

Pentium 4 1.8ghz
1gb PC2700 Ram
GeForce Fx 5200 128mb
80 gig HD
(This computer is an old HP 750c model)

9300 specs:
2.0ghz Pentium M
1 gig of ram
256 mb GeForce Go 6800
80gb 5400 HD

Just want to hear how bad this will kill my desktop, to hype me up for when I get my new laptop

I got my 6000 on the 7th day (day of the order being day 1), but it does depend on availability of parts and components. A friend received his 710m yesterday and it took him 6.

Past Experience

My experience with Dell is that the shipment day is usually the day it arrives, if not before. I just ordered a server from them and it was expected to ship 1/3/05, but according to UPS it will be delivered 12/29/05.

You will get it in 7-8 days. They always overshoot their scheduled delivery date in order to make themselves look good. However, your 6800 might cause a slight delay because they were out of stock for about a week.

Yeah, you should get it in a week, plus or minus a day. UPS says my system will be delivered tomorrow, 12/30/2005, so that would make the total time a week for me. Not bad, considering all the holidays. Of course, for some reason, mine spent only 1.5 days in boxing, whereas most systems spend 3 days there. Anyway, to pass the time, e-mail Dell every couple of days and see what they will do for you. I was trying to get them to upgrade the shipping, and the first time I thought of this, I called them. I hinted at upgraded shipping, but I was denied. They very politely told me that I could pay for it if I wanted to. Then, I e-mailed them a couple of days later. They didn't upgrade shipping, but they offered me a free 256MB USB Flash Drive, so that's on its way to me right now, too. I also e-mailed them yesterday in one last attempt to get the shipping upgraded at the last minute (it was the last day of boxing), and they offered to refund the shipping fees of $24 (although the shipping was free, so it must be the handling that they're talking about), and they offered me a 512MB MP3 player for free. It's some crappy SanDisk one, but why should I care? It's free! So I e-mailed them back saying that I would accept the offers (don't know why they require that, I mean, who wouldn't want an electronics item for free?) so they should get back to me today and tell me its on its way.

haha that will blow your desktop out of the water, it is beyond better, anyway... assuming that you got 3-5 day shipping then i would have to say you will get it in about 6-9days 3-4 for building and boxing 3-5 for getting it there, anyway awesome setup i hope you love it as much as i love my I6000 :-D

I read my order status wrong...the ship date is January 17th!! This is almost two weeks after I ordered it, I hope to god this is wrong, ill die from the wait

ok well, get on dell chat and tell them how outraged you are that you computer is still only being made and they will either give you money off, shipping upgrade or coupons.... you will also see your package coincidentally move ;-)

I wouldn't take the ship date at face value. Dell often give themselves plenty of time, that way people don't complain about them being late. My 710m had a delivery date of 21st Dec, and it arrived on the 8th

you can't check that unitl dell gives you a tracking number. They wont give you that until it is clasified as shipped because they do not have the tracking number from UPS yet.

I ordered my i6000 on the 28th. It went to the boxing stage on the 29th, and has stayed there ever since. I chatted with dell on why it takes so ling and here was the anser:

Quote:
It usually takes 3-4 days for the boxing to be complete
and

Quote:
during the boxing our orders undergo testing and if they is a fault found then they are again sent for a re testing which might cause a delay
Keep in mind this is just the boxing stage that is 3 to 4 days...

Boxing includes shipment from Malaysia to the U.S., so it can take a while, especially around holiday time. Your system should ship next week.

Mine stayed in that "In Production" stage for a whole day. I don't even think that's actually a stage. Maybe the parts are just lying in random places around the warehouse, and they haven't been put in the crate yet, which is what Kitting is. I guess it just depends on what's going on whenever they try to build your system. Some people complain about boxing. My system sat in other stages besides boxing for 4 days, so I complained about that. On the other hand, boxing only took 1.5 days for my system.

LOL, my brother ordered a Dell once and complained about the boxing time being so long and the said that if the computers were not made by chinese prisoners it might get here a little sooner.

The Dell tech assured him that dells were not made by chinese prisoners and that they were in fact assembled in the United States.
