Ok.

My keyboard is borked on my GX7 (see other thread - thanks Pat for your suggestions) - I cant use half the keys on the top row. While I figure out how to fix this I am in the annoying position of halving a half brightness screen. Usually I would use function f9 to fix this.... but you guessed it! It dont work!

How can I get my brightness back without using my f9 key?

Have you tried reinstalling the AP Key drivers/utility? I am just throwing this out there.

Hi. Thanks for the tip Pat, tried already though

Tried to be smart last night and used a nifty little keymapping prog (changes your registry settings to let you use different keys from the default mapping. )

Very odd..... when I remap the escape or F9 key to other parts of the kyboard they still dont work???? Why would that be? The key must be recognised at the point of pressing as being activated... but it wont activate the escape function regardless? Seems very odd.

ps... sent email to sales re keyboard yesterday - still no reply Theres no way I am able to pay 170$ shipping on a 11o$ keyboard!

It is all about DB. I will forgive your n00bness my friend At least my posts are not of the angry variety. Of the 8000 plus posts I have made you will find not that many are about this laptop. How you have only 4 posts since August of 2004 is interesting. Do you want to be a member of NBF? Are you going to tell me you have a life and don't have time to be active here? Are you a RL doc or something?

I think that may have been an error. Sales will contact you with the correct shipping cost. I'll throw a nudge their way.

Well, first of all yes, I am a medical doctor - WTF has that got to do with it? One aspect of my job is indeed that I dont have time to post several times a day on the supremely boring subject of delivery schedules. Why this forum allows you to spam to your hearts content is beyond me.... but chill out... it was just a joke! I dont have to read your posts after all! Just keep your apam to your own threads

I do respect your authority on all things spam.... if you go over to www.spamcrap.com and ask them who knows their sh*t about spamming only a few names will come up..... but yours might be amongst them

Anyways - cheers Pat. You are doing a great job!

What is your speciality? You might talk to Nassau Mike on the AW forums as he is also a computer enthusiast and an MD.

It is too bad you are judging me based on a limited set of posts. You might find I am actually pretty knowledgable about computers. We have Alienware computers in our clinic (being a Hyper customer I am sure you can appreciate that).

Anyways, sorry if my nagging about getting my new rig bothers you to such and extent. I guess I am getting tired of the delays (my shipdate was Dec 2). Maybe I can learn to find a way to make a positive contribution to NBF instead of purely spamming.

Dont worry m8, Im probably just getting a bit tetchy with all the eye strain Im getting from staring at this very dark monitor Im a GP, not a specialist, and Im not an MD (thats an American thing) I have a MBChB (bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery in UK.)

Im going to see if I can borrow a USB keyboard from someone today - hopefully that will act as a stop gap and cheer me up.

My wife is a DVM. To quote one of her tshirts: "DVM: medical doctor who is not limited to practicing on one species" Bachelors' degree plus 4 years of med school.

Get the Logitech DuNovo keyboard. It is ultra slim and wireless, plus is has a separate 10 key pad. YOu really should have one as a backup anyways. IMHO, laptop keyboards are not meant for surgeons (your damned hands are too expensive). Use an external, preferrably one of high quality.

BTW: What kind of money do docs make in the UK?
big money DeeBs, thats the kind they make once they have settled into a job after med school / university, and have been doing it for a few years.

GPs on the whole work harder in this country than in the us, especially if they are affiliated with the NHS and are not solely private, they get paid less than what usa docs do, but its still decent money they get.

I would think that a decent doc would get somewhere in the average of £70k+ a year, now it maybe less by a few thousand or maybe higher, but i r not a doc, so i cant tell you exact salary but anything from 60/70ish and up would be roughly correct.

and yes DeeBs, the man is correct, U R A SPAM MONKEY
post #13 of 27
70k pounds = 120k US? Not too bad.
would that be what usa docs get ? 120k us dollars,

remember this isnt a consultant or anything which are higher paid, this is just a normal doctor where you would goto if anything was wrong with ya, and if you needed a specialist then that doc would send you to the hospital where the big money is to be made. consultants and so forth.

but the OP will be able to answer things better than i can as he is a doc, I am just going on what extremely little knowledge that i have picked up.

EDIT:
I think i read somewhere awhile back that certain GP's/normal doctor get about 90/100k a year, now i couldnt say for sure if that was the case, thats why i dropped it to 60/70K.

this is a fulltime self employed GP salary - £71,588, and it starts off at 18/19k for someone who has just started off working as a doc.
Consultants basic salary is starting at £67k, all the way upto 91k, this is basic as it depends on how good they are and how much the particular hospital wants that person and are willing to pay for him/her.

http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/nhs-kno...data/5340.html

so DeeBage, how does that link compare to usa docs wages ????

Yeah you are about right there evil scotsman on wages. Though I have been working in New Zealand lately so Im a bit out of touch with the pay rates back in Scotland just now. Ill tell you this... New Zealand GP's are royally screwed on the wages front. They earn a pittance compared to hospital docs here. If it wasnt for the lifestyle (surfing/wakeboarding/snowboarding etc) Id be out of here and heading back home to Glasgow tomorrow!
is it that bad over there, wages wise i mean.

I suppose it is still better than being a doc back over in scotland, its snowing over here atm, and is freezing, id swap it with NZ any day of the week, and you dont have to put up with the drunk idiots in casualty at the weekend, imagine being on call/nhs 24 here, especially this time of year

anyways dude, good to see another fellow scot on these boards, no matter where you are, you have a good newyear, and lots of BEER. That goes without saying, since we scottish

Happy hogmanay to all!

If anyone knows of a way to get into the system to change brightness I still want to hear it! Just read in the manual that using external keyboards sometimes dosent allow you to use the special function keys - potentially leaving me in a world of darkness

Download Powerstrip. It will let you adjust the gamma level and such.
http://www.download.com/PowerStrip/3...-10025384.html

<<Note: Powerstrip has NOTHING to do with nekkid or semi-nekkid chicks, not that a doc would look at it anyways. I am sure you only view nekkid girls clinically>>

nvidia control panel then go into the colour correction part.

start/control panel/display/settings tab/advanced/ then name of your vid card tab/, and if its nvidia you will then goto colour correction.

If your keyboard has a function that doesnt work, then get it replaced under warranty, or it could be your monitor thats not responding to the keyboard inputs ?
