some venting issues regarding the motherboards on these rigs

i believe that all the d900 rigs are shipped with the same motherboard to all the vendors. so, this does not simply apply to just sager or any company in particular, except the ones that manufacture the part.

after having owned my system for close to a year; going through 2 systems (first one died on me suddenly), and just doing research, i would like to list some of the goofy defects that i would like to see corrected very soon...and maybe these already have with the introduction of the amd rigs because i would guess that they use a different motherboard.

1) the fan stutter problem. this was a real pan in the ass because one of the fans would not turn on before the fan control firmware update. this is a voltage problem and instead of it being physically corrected, there was a firmware and bios update that basically increased the voltage signal to the fans to have them start up at full speed for 1.5 seconds, then come back down to normal speed.

2) random weirdness of the computer booting up by itself when you plugged in the ac adapter. this occurs about 30% of the time um... maybe a battery issue? don't know, i am testing it right now. i took off the battery and will see if it occurs at all. i mostly place the computer into hibernate stat instead of shutting it down. i do not really put her into standby mode because the battery is drained too quickly. but for the little times i did, i never noticed the weird boot up to occur in standby, only with hibernation. and to finish this one off; when the system enters such a state, and before power on, it not only accepts a simple plug-in fromt the ac adapter...but it also acepts pressing the power on button on the dj console...yes, thats right, pressing the power button on the dj console turns on the computer, where it should only power up the audio dj feature. and besides that, if i simply touch and press the main power button the system would turn on..where in a normal state, i would have to press and hold the power button for about 2 seconds before the system can turn on.

3) slow boot up process. it takes 1 minute and 30 seconds to boot up the computer. there is a noticable pause during the process though. you can view this with task manager. boot up the computer and as soon as windows loads enough to allow task manager, you will see the cpu usage pause for a good while, then start up again and load another 200 megs of data. and no, this is not my software, i run a clean rig. i noticed it from the first time i booted her up and she came pre-loaded with nothing bu xp pro with sp2. i am blaming this on the motherboard...it's too dificult not to

4) slow hibernation and standby procedures. wtf...for a system this powerfull, it takes way too long going into hibernation and exiting..or even standby. i had a dell 9300 laptop with a 1.6 pm in there and it would go into hibernation with lightning speed. maybe it is my raid 0 setup, but i am betting it's the motherboard.

5) pressing and holding the power button for 2 seconds in order to turn on the system....so annoying i don't understand it. why not a simple touch like everything else in the properly working world?

6) it is a known fact that some of these motherboards simply die out suddenly. well, it is pretty clear that a component is frying out. which one, i do not know. i also do not know if it is a random component or one isolated one. when my first rig died out, i sent it back and requested that my raid hard drives be saved and swapped out into the new system since the offered a full replacement. i am thankful that my little request was acknowledged. it saved me one day of software installation.

if anyone has anything else to add, please feel free. i am just stating my own experiences.

Do these motherboards have the same overamplified, headphone hiss problem like the entire 5700 line?

1. It was solved by a new Main BIOS and Keyboard BIOS. It gives the CPU fans full power for a few seconds and then backs down to a regular continuous low mode. It had something to do a faulty voltage regulator in the fans themselves. The 6800 Ultra and 7800 require a new Mother Board or a Mother Board Revision and more powerful power supply.

2. Never happened to me in 13 and half months.

3. The only time it has booted that slow is after installing software or leaving the Wifi card on when it has nothing to connect to.

4. I use Hibernation all the time and it loads up fast. Although I have had a few freezes after coming out of Hibernation. I don't use Standby.

5. My old Dell 7500 laptop is the same way. I can't remember if my 8887 had a lighter touch or not.

6. Clevo and resellers are fitting a smaller group of people. So it is hard to tell if they have a higher MB failure comparing to Dell, Acer, and HP etc.

i figured out #3!! it seems that the stupid card reader is the culprit for the slow boot process. i disabled it in the bios and windows boots up quick. i am wondering if i have a defective card reader.
