XP activation?!?!?!?!

Thread Starter
Hey,

following a terrible re-install process everything is now back to normal on my computer (thanks for the help guys). Now the problem is though when i try to activate my windows XP it tells me that I have activated it too many times and I need to buy another copy of XP with another cd-key. Is there any way around this activation? I already own a copy of XP home and so it seems silly to be going out to buy another copy of it.

same thing happened to me. call the toll free MS number on the activation screen and they'll give you a special code.

Activation...stupidest yet smartest move ever for Microsoft.

download a copy of xp and spit in microsofts face.

I am sorry but for someone to expect you to buy a copy of xp for every computer you use is stupid. You can install games on more than one pc, why not windows? I went through that with microsoft and i really cannot wait til more programs become user friendly on macs, because im gonna swtich.

I have a copy of XP Pro. I will send a copy to anyone who wants to make a $10 donation to the FU@k Y@u Microsoft fund!!!

I think activation is good in theory, but you shouldn't constantly re-install the OS... you should burn a DVD image of the thing so you can just do a straight copy to "reinstall" it.

You know that windows activation theroy would be a good idea if windows was stable and you didn't have to reinstall all the time. But thats imposible for ol' billy gates

This is why you make a ghost image on a backup drive.. you will only install once, period...

Here's a link that will solve all your Microsoft problems.

XP Activation

BTW, a ghost image is the way to go. I installed XP, all my drivers and service packs then I ghosted my drive to 2 CDRWs.

It took me 15min Saturday to get my laptop back up and running.

Ghosting? Please Explain.
Got Windows XP sp1, all drivers and all regular programs I use minus the games ghosted to one dvd-r. I didn't think it would work because I had to go through the DOS version of GHOST, But it recognized my DVD burner and away it went. Now instead of taking hours to install windows, download and install service packs and other programs, I pop in the DVD and it takes 13 min and my computer is back to perfect.

Ghosting, or in other words Norton Ghost, Creates a sector for sector copy (on media of your chosing, hard disk, cd, DVD, tape drive)of the hard disk partition that you want backed up.
