Not always, gaming also benefits from the high res screen - I don't find non-native gaming that bad, certainly not enough to diminish the advantages of a 1920x1200 screen.

Hey man nice work! I know that the Latitude D810 and the M70 have the same exact config (minus the video card) ...So would it be easier to mod a quadro go1400 to a go7800gtx??

Since they are both from NV rather than trying to mod an X600 to a 6800....

Also, where can I find a geforce go7800gtx ?? ebay has none ive already looked....

thanks

The X600 to 6800Go worked because they are both cool running cards . What is the video card cooling solution on the M70? Is it the same as the D810? I can tell you right now that the Go 7800GTX WILL NOT work in a D810/M70. It's power requirements are too high, the BIOS doesn't support it, and the cooling solution can't handle the heat that comes off the card. However, depending on how cool running the new 7800 Go is, you might be able to get one of those in there

Well the card that comes in an M70 is the quadro go1400 256mb which is nearly identical to the 6800 256mb....(and yes the D810 and the M70 are identical minus the video cards the D810 has ATi and the M70 has Nvidia the cooling solutions are the same....) so it'd be pointless to swap the quadro go1400 with a 6800.... I would be willing to try it with the 7800 if I knew I had a good chance of making it work... and being able to get one for a decent price.......any ideas?

If I did the heat mod you were talking about and had the fans running constantly I think it would be ok no?

Well, Dell just debuted the Go 7800, so they might not have a spare parts/refurb stock yet that the modding community can pick at. I'm not so sure that it'll work though. First off, the heatsink and the PCB design of the card is slightly different, and it may be incompatible. Also, I'm looking for some temp readouts on the card, but haven't found anything yet (although I posted in the 9400/E1705 section). Hard to say if it'll work yet .

Yeah the Quattro can be overclocked to reach the same speeds at the 6800.

Yea but it would be nice to have the 24 pipes that the 7800gtx has too

My desktop 7800GTX flys! and id love to find a way to make it work in my new M70 .....Having a new one shipped to me...... sigh

Would I be able to take the heat sync off the quadro go1400 and do your heat mod thing and then put it onto the 7800gtx? Of course I'd have to make sure the heat gets xferred away from the card... thoughts?

Ok! Nevermind, it can be done at reduced clocks. Still some kick ass performance, and it's definitely faster than the vanilla 7800 Go. So if you really wanted to do it, you can with a little modification .

Grr. Grats guys. Now if Dell would just sell a 15.4'' notebook with a decent video card already in it.

Do you really think the Nvidia Quadro Go1400 is not a "decent video card"? Very strange...it is a brilliant gpu in a lovely notebook. I suppose all you want now is a 7800? A year ago the desire would be for a 6800. A year from now...!? If you want a no-compromize gamer then there are other options. A 17" screen is more appropriate for all-out gaming anyway. For a well-balanced 15.4" notebook the M70 is brilliant.

So will both versions of the 6800 go work with the A04 bios?

I just received my D810 and it already has the A04 bios... Will I technically only need to perform the heatsink swap to the 6800? Will any 6800 be okay?
