i guess i could take off the heatsink again and see how evenly the heatsink was on the gpu to see if its a newer heatsink version?

Run RTHDRIBL for 20-30 minutes fullscreen and see what your temps are like, if you want to see how high they can go.

off topic, just checked my JMU (VA University) email and got a package!
It should be an Atheros AR5006XS!
Now i am going to clear HD and start over, right now i have 72processes lol
Mcafee is not going back on (school we get corp version of norton) and that wireless card uses 3 less processes!

Thanks, it's a huge park with a little lake in the middle. But a couple times a year it's a MAJOR mosquito factory. Moving next week, but will have an ever better view. (Picture an island less than 2 miles in diameter with a 3,000 foot peak in the middle. You can see the neighboring islands!)

I'm happy with my temps, but I do hope that a proper AS5 installation will help even more. Instead of an amount equal in size to a grain of rice, I used an amount equal to a side order of fried rice for two. I'll get in there and do it the right way later this weekend I suppose.

More taxing than an hour or two in Farcry at 1920x1200 with 4x AF and HDR Rendering turned on?

(Downloading it. I love new gadgets.)

yea Doc, post how ur temps vary with ur lesser application of AS5 when u get the chance i think i used a slightly longer grain of rice for my size after rubbing in AS5 on both core and whole section of copper that touches core on heatsink

From what I understand, there's no need for a shim on GTX. I guess the fit is good and the heatsink will screw down flush against the GPU if there's nothing in between. Sounds like a perfect place for a tiny bit of AS5, just the way it's meant to be.

TBH, I haven't tried FC w/HDR on my laptop, so I can't say for sure. But on my desktop and laptop, it heats the GPU higher than anything else I've tried. I takes a bit to peak out, tho. I have to say, I recently tried ATITool, and it comes pretty close during it's artifact scan.

Just save all your work and close everything else first:

"Cause system crash on some enviroment with fullscreen mode. Cause of this problem is unknown."

Hmmm. Never had that happen to me. Did it happen to you, or is that just in the instructions? Try just expanding the window borders as large as you can over your desktop, without actually "maximizing" it.

It's just on the web page in the "Problems" section. I haven't run it yet. My cable connection is down right now so I'm on the slow 256k DLS fallback line. I'll DL it later when the main connection is back up.

OK. I've never had a problem with it crashing my system, or even just the program crashing, so hopefully you won't either.

I've been using Windows too long to be afraid of system crashes anymore. Bring it on.

He's just prepared for what Windows holds in stock for him. Of course, I'm using this Vista thing...

I had ATI mutate to the BSOD with an nvidia infinte loop driver error wit different combinations of drivers and clocks. thats was yesterdays project.

Steady eddie now @ 101deg C max after hours and 440/1200
without bothering to shut down processes its >7000 3dmark5

FEAR did it for me initially, but found out it was bad bad dell with crap assy thermal pad; ATI now trumps fear in temps

Doc, v nice vista you got there lol

No I get 7123 with background stuff off, 7021 with crap on

It only has a 1.73processor but I guess not having to carry around the xmas lights gets it close to your score
