I bought mine when they were much more expensive and didn't buy cheap and plan on upgrading. My laptop came with a 2.0GHz P-M and 6800Go, got it for $1600. After spending $160 for the 1.8GHz, $260 for the 7800GTX, $40 for the adapter, and $200 for the 2GB of RAM (yes, it was that expensive when I bought it ), I'm in the $2300 range anyway. It's still much cheaper than the XPS2, and now you can get the same system for $1600 or less if you play your cards right.

$900 for the setup. +$80 for the 1gig of ram

back in the day

$1400 for original.....
ALOT for the upgrades.
New CPU
New GPU
Second battery
130W Power Supply
1GB RAM. (when it was expensive)
Then MORE RAM (NOW)
7200RPM hitachi HDD (When they were expensive)
External HDD enclosure

I think it came out to $2200 or something

Mine's still new and I haven't resold the old components yet.

$980 for the system
$250 for 7800GTX
$160 for 2GB Ram ($10-20 will come back in rebates)
$80 for battery
$35 for 130W adapter

So.. I'm at about $1500. Once I sell the old ram, battery, ac adapter, and video card I figure I'll be back down to about $1250ish.

originally: 2.0ghz processor, 512mb memory, 60gb 5400 sata, 6800go, DVDR/W $1150 through epp program with 3 year warranty

2x1gb mushkin memory $180 (including cost to return the first set which was bad)
7800gtx - $255
130w - $40
9 cell - $90
1.7 for pin mod - $70
total = $1755

After selling my 2.0ghz processor, memory, power adapter, battery and 6800go, I hope to get under $1400 for end cost.

Original $765 (inc. ship):
1.6GHz 533MHz / 80GB / 512MB / 17" WXGA / X300 64MB / 6 cell

+$173.91 (inc. ship):
(2 sticks) 1GB Kingston PC4200 /1G

+$108 (inc. ship):
1.6GHz 400MHz (pinmod to 2.13 , havent done yet ;-)

+$185 (inc. ship):
256MB GDDR3 6800 Go Ultra

+$77.30 (inc. ship):
9-cell Battery

+$29.90 (inc. ship):
PA-13 Power Brick

765 + 173.91 + 108 + 185 + 29.90 + 77.30 = $1,339.11

Total Cost not including the selling off my stuff I upgraded: $1,339.11

So, considering I sold my desktop to a friend's family member for $1125, I'd say this was a pretty good upgrade (it was a 2.8GHz P4 Prescott / 6600GT (500/900) / 2GB PC3200 / 80GB / 17" LCD) for $214 hehe.
