Help on low 3d Mark 05 score.

Thread Starter
I can seem to get past 4900 on 3dMark05 running default testing parameters.
I am using the 3d Marl 05 profile in the Nvidia control panel applet. Image quality set to performance. CPU Z shows my CPU is at full. I am using 81.94 drivers. I using AVG for anti-Virus (NO Norton). My score for my wife's DIY rig with AMD x2 4400 and Geforce 7800 GTX and lesser drivers with no OC is over 7k. Shouldn't this lappy break 7k as well?

With the GeForce Go 7800GTX, you should be scoring in the 6500-7000 range for 3DMark05. This is where I score on my system. I use the official 81.94 ForceWare mobile drivers directly from Nvidia.

The only thing I could think that could cause the problem is if your CPU is throttling while performing the test. While watching the test, do you see any drastic up and down frame rate issues?

Just for reference, the GeForce Go 6800 Ultra scores around 5000-5300 while the GeForce Go 6800 DDR3 and ATI Mobility Radeon X800 DDR3 score around 3700-4000 -- all in 3DMark05.

I do see drastic up and down frame rate issues. How do I set the CPU to just be steady?

Damn, my scores suck I think do the the CPU throttling up and down. How can I turn off fooking Cool N Quiet. I see frame rates drop from 30s to single digits then back up. Arg.

normaly this is an bios option ^^

Yes it normally is. The BIOS seems to be stripped of much of what should be there.

maybee this from AMD helps:

Enabling Cool ‘n’ Quiet™ Technology
To enable the Cool ‘n’ Quiet feature on a Windows XP system, you have to change the power scheme. Open the ‘Power Options’ from the Control Panel. Choose the power scheme ‘Minimal Power Management’ and click ‘OK’ to enable Cool ‘n’ Quiet.

i believe 'always on' will disable cool&quiet

I have always on. Does not help.

You can't change it in BIOS or power management options?! Wow. What motherboard does the 9750 use? Hope you find a solution, otherwise I'll be shying away from this laptop.

P.S. When you say the power management does not help, did you restart and run the 3d Mark tests to make sure? Sometimes Windows has a problem with displaying the correct speed AMD dual cores are actually running at.

I ran the tests with AMD monitors and the CPU speed appears ok. The second proc utilization drops wayyyy down when the FPS drops in 3dMark 05 (which is what is causing the shitty scores). The AMD Cool N Quiet monitor does not indicate any abnormal activity other than the second proc drop in utilization.

I think this may be a case of a new proc/mobo being on the market (frustrations of beign an earlier adopter, sure it will be resolved). I would like to verify others have same issue or if not what settings they use.

damn that sucks DB... im sure it will be resolved...
how about the rightmark utility. With it, it keeps mine at 1783mhz all the time.
From what you have shown above your memory is only running at 342 (shouldn't it be running at 400). Also have you installed the AMD and Microsoft dual core fixes yet? Is this with the card that came with it or the one they were sending you to see if the first one was the problem? When I run 3DMark05 on my main computer I don't use a profile (just global settings). Everything on application controlled except image to high performance, v-sync off, negative LOD bias to clamp. Not sure what is going on with it, but something is not right with that score. Hope you get it fingered out soon. Also might want to try some of the drivers from laptopvideo2go or the betas from nvidia.

Nvidia beta download.

I installed the new video card and my scored jumped to 6722!!! Woot. That is all defaults, no OC.
Mild GPU OC gets me 7607.

Congrats on the quick fix DB. Kick ass laptop you have there.

Good to see

Its UP and working the way is should!
what kinda scores you getting on 3d'06 with that beast?
7607? wholly crap?!...............my rig only gets 7360 ..........then again my units got resource issues all over the shop .and mines a pentium based system .urg i wish they had brought out the amd based system earlyer.
