Sweet - Finally got a 1.8 to do 2.4 - pinmod story

Thread Starter
After many attempts, I have finally got a 1.8/400 to do 2.4 in my 9300 at default vCore. I had a 1.7 at 2.26 before but this is faster. It's all about the speed - LOL -

Four 1.8/400 with one that will pin mod
Four 1.7/400 with three that will pin mod.

That's my story and I am very happy - for the moment - LOL

Sweetness man, now just get a 7800go

Holy crap that's alot, but good show. I'm impatient as hell, after my 1.7 failed I just got a 1.8 and volt modded the sucker; I'm all about subjugating my hardware . But great work Lou, do you notice alot of improvement over the 2.26? I second getting the 7800Go though

Other then a few points in benchmarks, what exactly do you notice any difference in performance in with the 2.4 over the 2.26?

Going from ~7500 to ~8000 in 3dmark05 is worth the ~$150 you spend on a 1.8 on ebay, IMHO...this means you can run, e.g. COD2 at higher rez/AA levels, Gothic2 at max visual distance, and other games that are very CPU dependent at higher visual quality and framerates...

I mean, that 500 point jump in 3dmark05 is MORE THAN 1/2 of the jump you see going from an o/c 6800Ultra to an o/c 7800GTX! I only went from ~6700 to ~7500 on the former trade-up, and that cost me ~$350!!

3DMark05 doesn't reflect real world gaming performance in the games mentioned because its not based of any of those engines. 3DMark05 is a synthetic gaming benchmark and nothing more. 3DMark05 is also GPU dependent and CPU performance plays only a small role in your performance results. Going from a 2.26 to 2.4 will be NOWHERE near the gaming performance improvement of going from an o/c 6800 Ultra to an o/c 7800GTX. Not even close. And what CPU did you have before you got the 2.13?

DAMNIT!!! and here I've gone through 1 1.6 and 3 1.7s and NONE of them work! If you still have one of those tested 1.7s kicking around let me know as I'd love to try one thats already worked in someone elses system!

Nice at 2.4 ! Thats just sweet!

I noticed a ton of difference going from 2.0 to 2.4, just wondering what the difference between 2.26 and 2.4 was and if the CPUs scale linearly at the high end.
i don't think i will notice a difference from 1.6 to 2.4 ..........NOT, i am gonna go rape some school boys in the face even harder than normal at BF2. right now i can't even get 4k 3dmarks!!! yeah i've tried. but get artifacts in ati tool at my current oc (see sig) in less than 3 minutes. should i really trust ati tool or should i only worry about visible artifacts?

I have a 2.13 currently, and have never had anything else...I will certainly see the difference in games...yes, 3dmark05 is 'only' a synthetic benchmark, but increases there can be used as a pretty good estimate of the increase in real-world games...e.g. going from a 6800 to 7800 you get around 800-1000 points which results in around a 50% increase in Doom3 FPS@high resolutions (at least, it did in my case)...yes, this jump would be smaller going from 2.13 to 2.4Ghz, but it will be noticeable, IMHO...also, it costs next to nothing compared to buying a new system! Remember, as recently as a year or so ago, there was nothing that could touch desktops, and absolutely NO WAY of upgrading a notebook yourself....grabbing as many upgrades as you can now is just a way of putting off having to shell out another $3000.

Get a 755 and pin mod to 2.66Ghz
Are there any newer 755's do this with less than 1.6v? The older ones needed alot of juice to get up there.

Same here

I was thinking of doing that same mod(1.8 to 2.4) and I was wondering what you do if the 1.8 doesn't work without the volt mod. Do you just stick them on ebay? How long did the mod take you, and for k6 with his volt mod how long did that take you and how much did it cut your battery life and raise you temps? I totally agree...you got to get the 7800
