Hear a "pop" sound/game runs then stutters

Hi. I am on a 7700, roughly 8 months old. Lately I have been getting terrible performance. Just tonight though, a new problem has risen. I am hearing a "pop" in the speakers. Immediatly following the pop, my computer runs very slow untill another pop occurs. This process is VERY annoying. It occurs randomly, and very frequently(multiple times a minute). Also, the last few weeks when playing games, it will be running fine then suddenly I will be lagging like a mother! Any chance the two problems are related? Thanks!

there was a thread about "popping" in the speakers here somewhere... search for it...

as for the horrible system slow downs or lag... check for spyware / virus type activity.

Im using norton, and it is not finding anything. As for the drivers, my video card driver is 81.98, and my sound card is 5.12.10.1162......

dont know what else i should look up for. im a pretty knowledgable computer user, but im almost clueless when it comes to drivers and such.

I had this problem ALOT. During that time I had my motherboard replaced 3 times for other problems and the problem still existed. This problem happens more often when I use the PCMCIA wireless card, but would still exist without the use of it. It would stutter right when the fan speeds up, then stutter again after the fan slows back down. During that time my framerates would drop down to 1 fps.

AW tech support could not solve this problem. I did several fresh installs using both the respawn and the OEM version of Windows, before and after windows and driver updates, and still no fix. My laptop worked flawlessly for months before this started to happen.

However recently it has not happened during the course of about 2 months. I've done nothing different than what I have done trying to eliminate the problem. It seemed to have just worked itself out.

However my point is that your not the only one that has this problem. Ive seen in the AW support forums of others having the same problems that were also not resolved, or at least not replied that the problem was fixed.

Check for the chipset driver. BTW call tech support they know what to do better than most of us :-P

What drivers do I need? And how do I check to see what I currently have? I feel like a complete idiot right now. And as for support, they removed the chat support from the AW site for some reason???

I found upping the PCI latency for the audigy card helped a lot ...
Also in some games it helps to set the mode of the card to Standard instead of Advanced using the 'Feature Mode Selection Utility' that can be downloaded from Creative.
