Has i have properly understand, you do not have root access to the machine and it is a company/corporate one ? If so damn, no update of gfx drivers will be possible by you. But you may point the company that there are basically limiting there own hardware.
By the way, RHat, Mandrake and other 'Automated Installation' uses the 'vesa' graphic driver in the /etc/X11/XF86Config (-4) file of the X server for ANY CARD that 'they' do not identify. The radeon M9 is too new. Check the links i posted for install.
