DVD Burner Question - Failing all Writes

Thread Starter
Using the Acer 4005's Matshita UJ-84, I have all DVD burns failing at the end, no matter what speed I burn the disc at. I'm using Memorex DVD+R discs, with an 8X spec. THe inside of the case talks about needing Firmware updates for older drives, but I am not able to find any for the 4005's DVD writer.

My question then is:
1) Is there a download location for a firmware update for the drive?
2) Is there a different brand of media I should be using? What have other people had good luck with?

Thanks guys/Gals!

shadow502t,
What program do you use to burn? Acer's nti or have you installed a another one (nero?)
You could try using another disc brand (tdk, verbatim, ritech... - I have never had a problem even with no name disks using nero 6.13 and now 7)

I am using Nero Professional 6.0.0.

A while back I had some issues with the drive, in that it would not read as a writer for the default burner program. Using Nero allowed me to burn regular CDs with no problems at all. But DVD not, so I was wondering if it was media.

Are there specific drivers somewhere for the writer? Perhaps I could delete the drive and reinstall.

Unfortunately I haven't found any drivers for it. When I had nero 6.0.something my nec drive on my desktop pc would refuse to burn dvds -it could handle cds though. Upgraded to newer (6.6.0.13) and had no problem since. I still recomend you to change both media and burning software... Cant you find a newer nero version?
