New to AW, any recommendations?

Hi guys,
I have a big fat Dell Inspiron (8.5lbs or so) from a couple of years ago and a Fujitsu 7020 from a year ago. I like the Fuji because it's very light (barely 4lbs.) but the Dell is better built and has a better screen.

I mostly just do email, web, powerpoint, some casual pictures, some word. I don't game and I don't do video editing, etc...

I don't really NEED a new laptop in absolute terms, but I WANT something new and different. I'm just really BORED with the same old square gray box. I really like the new glossy screens and I wish Sony had a computer that came anywhere close to their screens.

Anyhow, I had never considered AW before, but started poking around this forum and they look pretty cool. I'm looking for something well-built (good quality), very nice screen, and not too heavy. I'm a little flexible on size. I was looking at a Dell 630m with a 14.1" widescreen and weighs like 5.5lbs. But I could go 15.4" widescreen if I could find something not over 6.5lbs.

I've been looking at the AW site, but it seems a little overwhelming with so many different models and they don't seem to list any weights for anything. Can anyone help me with a place to start or a few models to consider?

how about the new sentia m3400 ?

here are some of the features listed on the website:

* Features a 14” wide-screen LCD with ClearView technology giving you a clearer and more vivid image than standard LCD displays.
* Weighs a light 4.5 lbs for effortless transport.
* Delivers up to 3.5 hours of battery life* so you can focus on working or having fun on the go without worrying about your battery.

you can get all the info here:

Wow, that was fast! Thanks a bunch. I'll check it out right now. That's nice and light for a 14" notebook. Do folks here like the Sentia's? Good build quality, etc...?

There is a sentia section here in the AW forums. You can check things out there.

Also look at the m5500, it's 15" but it's slimline, and packs lots of power. You can get it with an Nvidia 6600 vid card to play games, and it also is easy to switch to onboard intel graphics for work applications to save battery.

You might also look at the m5700, it's also slimline, but it's 17". It's a fujitsu apparently.

Sentia's are great for portability for work or students, but it's not designed for gaming. Sounds like what you're after. You can get it in 12" or 14" models.

Welcome to NBF - the Sentia looks like it'll be a perfect fit for you. It's definitely got more than enough fire power and the Clearview screen is awesome!

Thanks spaced,
I was hoping to hear some thoughts on the AW Clearview screen. Since I'm new to AW, I have no idea how their lcd screens compare to the usual suspects.

I recommend the Sentia!

The clearview makes the screen look like glass. It's great! Well worth it!

Good Luck with the choices...
