Humm

Never thought about leftys not using the mouse with their right hand. I don't think so but I look around.

Mouse

If you're just looking to get a mouse with the MX engine then the MX300 should work for a lefty. They don't make a unihand cordless MX mouse.

I heard that if you work along side someone who also has a wireless mouse on another computer than it can cause conflicts?
So I now have 2 mouses!! One corded and the other cordless!

Eek! a mouse! ( jerry )
These mouses are driving me to pieces ( Jerry )

I've had 3 cordless USB mice running parallel to each other on the same PC! And they worked, too.

Cheers.

We all use Logitech cordless optical (the original, blue/gray-righthanded) in my office (about 15 of them). Closest proximity is about 2-3 feet through a cubical wall. There is NO interference whatsoever. Been using them almost 2 years now (got them when they first came out).

They are great mice, and I'd only hope that Logitech continued to use the same wireless transmitters/receivers in their newer MX cordless mice, so interference should not be a problem at all.

I have even used two together, it was fun watching the pointer struggle when one mouse says go left, the other says go right! (I had to put both mice on the same channel at the same time, though, to do this). Typically, they will find seperate channels.

Just my $0.02 worth,

R/F and security....

Umm i bet the wireless frenzy is not over yet. Everything is Cordless and we love it! What about security ? I am not that worried about a cordless mouse, even if it can be used, more about cordless keyboards. Did you know that buying a small radio receiver from Tandy's and a few tweak on it will enable you to catch all keystrokes and mouse clicks ? Yes indeed interferance may occur, as i have seen 2 laptops wireless mouse users fighting for 'frequencies' in the cybercafe where i work

As a note, cordless keyboard and mouse are forbidden at the DoD, not for nothing. For my part, i am not too scared of loosing the mouse itself in my room (hehe), or worse getting it stolen somewhere. So i like cords
Optical is definately a 25 % cut on the stress rolling the damn ball

Come to think of it, it just may be possible to create a wireless IR mouse for the 5660 (8887 if you're a lefty). The IR port on the 5660 is on the right side, approximately where you would use the mouse. It may be possible to modify a regular Optical mouse to send the tracking info through a side mounted IR transciever. Then all you have to do is program windows to accept your creation as a mouse and you have a wireless IR mouse!

Ha, like that'll ever happen,

Wow... you are absolutely right about the security thing, I had never even thought of that. Although it shouldn't be too hard to secure, right? Maybe load something like WEP into it?

Cheers.

Problem is ....radio waves are going from a point in all directions ...We just installed an access point at the cybercafe for laptops users, and while setting it up for the first time, with a laptop and a wireless pcmcia, we picked up 4 other wireless networks and they are all within 100 meters !!!! damn long rang these things. The experience is great, the Access point is hooked to a switch and to a 2 MBits ADSL line. No bottle neck, as fast as native ethernet, for our set up that is
WEP on mouse and keyboard seems impossible due to the required low latency of these devices. Sending encryption everytime you blow on your mouse will be an overhead, at least i think

jamesshuang,

I am not sure if the IR port could handle as much I/O as a mouse port does. Maybe someone knows more about that ?

Yeah, I didn't think of that. Maybe good ol' RSA encryption will do. I mean, I don't think that carries too much of an overhead...

Cheers.
