Transfering Pics via SD Card

I am trying to transfer some pics from my SD memory card out of my digital camera. I simply plugged it into my 9300 and nothing. I used to plug it into my emachine and it would beep and ask me about transfering them. Is there a setting that needs to be changed?

Nope, it works fine for me, the Drive should recognize disks as if it were a regular drive for CDs

It does not do that. There has to be a setting somewhere.

uh i recently reformatted and i opens up as a drive. check the control panel and their is probably some preferance their for removable storage drives. i have xp pro which could make a difference cause i am supa ub3r 1337 pr0.... or not.

Make sure it is not one of those MMC cards (I think that is right). Those won't work. They look the same. My camera will take
both. The 9300 is SD only.

I see no setting in the control panel labeled removable storeage devices. And I am sure the drive is for an SD card.

I have Kingston SD card, it works fine.

I have been using generic cards with no problems.

Works great for my 16MB Canon card and my 1GB SanDisk card. Something tells me it's not the hardware, and the problem is on the users end...

My PNY 512 SD just died and i lost all my new year's 100MB worth of photos! What a sh*t! Fortunately my PNY has a lifetime warranty. I hope they'll replace it soon.

That's a shame. Don't quite know what you mean by 'died' but perhaps you could recover the pics with this freeware.......?

Well, after using the SD card (read/write) with my 6000's sd reader, my digital camera (Canon) suddenly can't read the card. It says "card error". When I tried inserting it to the 6000's sd reader nothing happens.

When I access my digicam's format options, it reads the card as 3.8MB instead of 488MB. (the card's capacity is 512MB by the way)

Do you know for certain that your 6000s card reader is working? If so, then I'd try using that recovery software. It may 'see' the files even though Windows or your Canon can't. Worth a try, maybe.....
I have no problem using a 512mb transend on mine. so yeah it might have something to do with his lappy
post #18 of 21
yes i am certain. i have been using it for quite some time now (since march 2004). this is why i'm surprised it suddenly stopped working (the card and not the reader). Maybe the card shorted. (eh?)

I've tried the recovery software but the problem is nothing happens when i insert the sd card into the card slot. The recovery software only recognizes my drives but the removable storage.

I found this after a little reasearch.

http://support.dell.com/support/topi...c=us&cs=&s=gen

This indicates that my card should be in FAT format. The only two choices in my camera is NTSC and PAL. Whats the difference
post #20 of 21
Those are not file system formats, those are recording standards for media (TV etc.).

NTSC is an acronym for National Television System Committee, used in North America primarily.

PAL is an acronym for Phase Alternating Line.
This system is used in most of Western Europe and in Australia.

What you want to find out, is what file system format your card is currently in. What camera do you have? That will help us figure out your current format.
