When you see people lugging around satchel type or briefcase type bags, it's obviously a laptop and you often dont want that kinda attention. I go to college and the backfit just fits right in and melts into the crowd without as much suspicion. I also find it more versatile and able to hold more items, if necessary.

Another nice thing about this bag is that it has a quick access zipper for easy and quick access to the laptop. The rear of the backpack is heavily padded so it's very comfortable against your back and lumbar area.

Take a look at the 227 reader reviews about it for more details.
heh, this is the EXACT same backpack I just got from Dell. The only difference is on the front there is a very small (1" diameter) Dell label on it.

I also is the Samsonite above. From waht I can tell, Samsonite makes some/most of the Dell Backpacks/Bags. I like the Samsonite more than the Dell case becasue it doesn't totally scream "steal me" like it would if it had the little Dell logo.

Plus, I picked it up for under $30 at CC.

So, what's a good roomy bag to fit a 17 inch laptop, the mouse, goodies and a college textbook or 3?

Seems most go with a Targus XL?

EDIT: seems they have a 15.4 model and a 17inch model. We sure we're talking about the same ones?

For the daily commute between the office and home I use the Dell branded Mobile Edge Deluxe Backpack and really like it! Got it for just under $30 shipped a month after I got my 9300:

For my work trips I use the Kensington Contour Roller. I have to take more stuff with me to support various servers and LAN/WAN equipment. I got it at CompUSA for around $80 with my corporate discount and have been very happy with it!

i thought Dells's Dell Nylon Deluxe Carrying Case is pretty good, fits the 17" very well and given the price is decent and its adequately padded.

So no company makes a thin compact bag that fits 9300/XPS?!? There are a few for apple 17" laptop that fits it like a glove, e.g. not big and bulky or backup style. For example incase's 17" case for ibook: http://www.goincase.com/2004/prod_la...leeveNylon.php

I just got this one. It might fit your bill. It's a real snug fit with the XPS (and I mean snug; in fact, the first time you put the laptop in, you might think it's too small, but it does fit like a glove, a tight glove...). It's a Tumi, so it's not cheap, but it's built like a tank, and really compact. Other than the laptop itself, there's room for some papers or a manila envelope, maybe a thin book or two of them side by side, but not much else. No room for the powerbrick, really (I think you could squeeze it in if you insist, but I wouldn't be comfortable with that brick lying on top of the computer).

Tom Bihn Super Ego bag with a Braincell insert, cost a pretty penny but is more waterproof than most (I'm outside alot). Also very easy to slip the laptop in and out of the cell as its secured inside the bag, it can also work as a bag on its own. Lotsa well thought out space.

Well, y'all convinced me to get the Samsonite Laptop Sport Backpack over the Targus 17" XL one. Hope you guys are right because I was going to pick up the Targus tomorrow. I ended up ordering the Samsonite instead.

In case any of you wanted a long term review on the samsonite sport... I've had the samsonite and my i9300 for about a year, the backpack holds up better than the i9300. Very nice backpack, still.
