I'm still running the A01 version. what am I missing as far as functionality?

Check the dell website for release notes on BIOS updates.

i see the notes, my question is explicit.

this forum should be able to briefly outline the benefits of flashing the bios with the most recent A05.. or staying with what I currently have.

I intend to install a 7800GTX in a few days when it arrives.

A04 is probably your best result. It resolves a lot of bugs and increases performance by a small amount. You're missing out on 3 revisions to the most important piece of hardware in your system. I wouldn't recommend A05 as a lot of people are reporting poor cooling performance.

The 7800GTX may only be compatible with A04 and above. Not positive on that, though.

As are the BIOS notes, read them...

As far a functionality (taken to mean the addition or removal of features rather than a change in those that already exist in A01 - your question is rather ambiguous in this respect) is concerned, you are not missing anything...

To really summarise though, A04 = cooler but noisier, A05 = quieter but warmer.

sheesh

sometimes you can't get a str8 response in this forum without scrutiny.

is all that really necessary?

Well, you did seem to be asking for information that is readily available (and you seem to suggest you have already seen it).

Besides, Stellus and I have answered you question so is your complaining really necessary?

In the time it took to type up the post, he could have hit google.com and found an answer...

Do you see any complaining? I asked a question, made a statement. End of convo.

I used the search engine but it kept erroring on me. So can't say I didn't utilize the resources available.

There was no need for the excessive lip in an attempt to respond to a question. A simplistic response is all that was required or ignore the thread like everyone else that thought it was a silly inquiry was my comment. Note, NOT a complaint. BUT you should know that SINCE you are such a genius huh?

No need for flames. Chill .

who started the flaming in this thread? if you guys are such geniuses why do you bother to interact? must you ridicule everyone that asks a question? cos you think it is stupid?
You got helpful responses telling you the differences between A01, A04 and A05. Your question was addresses in a very timely manner. If everyone thought it was a stupid question, nobody would have answered at all. Don't insult people who try to help you, that's some good advice you should take.

I don't accept advice while being ridiculed. That's not how your teacher responded to your 'dumb' questions when you were in school.

Well, you ended with a question which without an answer isn't really an end...

Sorry, just messing now.

It's the internet, you know you can't get a straight answer. Beats asking Dell though...

To install the 7800GTX in a 9300 and run it at full speed you can't use any 9300 BIOS. A05 will recognize the card, but it will run in low power mode which destroys any benifit the upgrade had.

You need to flash to an XPS2 BIOS, if you want to know how you can READ THE STICKY or search for it.
