DO NOT take my word for it!!! I know just as much as you about what WILL happen... BUT, I will repost the emails that has led me to believe that it won't be long:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clevo directly:
Thank you very much for your support on our product line, I will check with Sager and release our 5660 with 3.06 and w/ H/T asap. Thank you again.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hypersonic Computers:
Thank you for inquiring about our computer systems.
The Intel Pentium 4 Processor with HT technology is available on the Aviator. However, the current BIOS on the Aviator does not yet support this feature. A BIOS update will soon be available to support HT. The BIOS update file will be available on our support download site as soon as it is ready.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AJP Computers:
We will have these machines in stock in about 3 weeks, contact me on the number below when you wish to order and I will have one with you in 48 hours.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Red Submarine Computers:
Thanks for your email.
Although the 3.06 GHz processor will run without problems, the motherboard isn't hyper threading ready - yet! Hopefully soon ...
We actually assemble the laptops in house.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Eurocom Computers:
Thank you for your interest in our products. We are planning to update in about 4-6 weeks our current model of 5600P/5600D Monte Carlo to 5600DS model supporting Hyper-Treading Pentium 4 processor (3.06 GHz +) and 128 MB DDR Video based on ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 or 9000 FireGL.

The upgrade require change of mechanical design (improved ventilation) to support high performance, extremely powerfull H/T based processors.

Then around June/July we are updating Monte Carlo again, implementing 8x AGP technology based on Intel Springdale chipset, DDR400, and VIDIA 31 8x fully Open GL compliant graphics engine. This is part of our commitment to make things better and faster. We make future to happen.

We will offer H/T compatible BIOS upon the launch of our 5600DS (or 5660) model. In fact we expect to support up to 5 GHz Pentium 4 processors in this model as far as thermal spec is concerned. We redesigned the entire cooling system and bottom case to provide better air flow into and out of the unit. We expect 5600DS to be extremely stable and reliable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's what I've gotten back from my emails I've sent asking about it. Eurocom gave me the most info... Adam @ PCTorque and Donald/Joel @ PowerNotebooks kinda took the high road and said they didn't know/it could be awhile. I'm not sure when it'll happen, but I hope it's soon! Let me know what you think...

BTW, I haven't heard back from Sager directly yet! Hmmm..

atbear thanks for the email replies you posted, i visited all the websites that you mentioned above and here is what i got when i maxed out all the systems

Red-Submarine
$3758.03 exc. VAT
$4080 inv. VAT
3GHz
60gigs

------------------------------
EUROCOM
Maxed out
2.6GHz ???
60Gigs 4.200rpm
UXGA1600-1200
$2824

-------------------------------
Hypersonic maxed out
3.06 GHz
60Gigs 5.200
UXGA 1600-1200
$2890

Don't even think of AJP, dude their prices are mad i maxed out and i got something like 4200$

ok here is what i think, laptop is very very good piece of technology, but i'm not going to pay 4000 for a laptop, from the companies above

Hypersonic - has the most normal price. In your mail they said that BIOS doesn't support HT, so does it mean that mobo supports HT ?, and BIOS is the only problem? if they don't lie, than that's very good, they didn't say anything about video though(i'll mail them).

EUROCOM - they gave you the best reply but look at their prices, $2824 for 2.6GHz? can you imagine how it'll rise when the 3.06 w HT will be available? + 128 Video.

Red-Submarine - their price is already way too high, + they are in England, and everything is very expnsive there + the damn VATs

So, Sagers are the best choice, but Sagers are keeping back with 2.8 GHz when all the others are already 3.06 and are trying turn HT on , and i don't know what are Sager's plans about 3Ghz HT and 128Vid
post #26 of 29
they're all going to have the same stuff at the same time, it's just up to Clevo to have it delivered to them.

All the "others" may be selling laptops with 3.06 saying that hyperthreading will be available soon but they're in the same boat as sager. They'll have to wait for clevo's analysis and solution so I don't see any advantage from them since you're basically paying for a feature that isn't available yet

So Vortex, looks like for you and me Sager or Hypersonic would be the cheapest route to 3.06 w/ HT in a 5660.... I'm pretty "loyal" to Sager now though, just because of Donald at PowerNotebooks (emailed him about 25 times already) and these great Sager Forums (I'll have to buy some accessories from PCTorque to repay him for this forum!). So, I can't wait for Sager to come out with the technology in their NP5660... I hear that Sager is really good about being one of the first to debut new technologies... I hope that plays true this time, b/c I want my 5660 with 3.06 HT as soon as I can!

yea atbear, it looks like the cheapest way for us, and forum is really good too, i mean, if you have problems you'll get help, i emailed alienware million times, and they never answer, and because of that how do i know when i buy a laptop that then they will answer my questions? i also wait for 128Megs card, as guys told here UT3K can eat 128 megs and i want 5660 to last me couple of years without warries that some game may not run smoothly

I hope Sager will update faster and will be cheaper than hypersonic with same config, cause i don't know who are hypersonic people and if i can trust them
