Ok I'm not a avid mac person in fact I really don't care for them. I was reading Slashdot and came across this article from macintouch. http://www.macintouch.com/reliability/laptops.html Does this Jive with your guys experience. I haven't really worked on the mac hardware in about 5 years I've since let my certs go away. So let's make this clear. I'm not trolling here I just want to know if this fits with your collective experience.

Good luck with this one Smith but I read it and want to know if this is the case seeing as I am looking to get some kind of mac for my wife.

i don't know how much use we can be here. we had a thread going for mac repairs, but since no one who had voted on the low end of the ratings bothered to talk about their experience i locked the thread. 1 or 2 "no comments" would have been fine, but the fact that no one who had the worst experiences w/ their Macs bothered to talk about it, it seemed pretty fishy. notably, the majority of people who voted positively made note of it beyond the simple poll response.

in any case, here's something i pulled up re: overall stats.

Quote:
Notebooks
Apple notebooks are the most likely to be recommended by their users, followed by Dell, Lenovo/IBM, Averatec and Toshiba (PNK: TOSBF), all above average. The least recommended units are those from Gateway (NYSE: GTW) and HP/Compaq. In the middle are Fujitsu (OTC: FJTSY), Sony and Acer. The percent of notebooks needing repairs during the first year was Apple at 13 percent, Acer at 20 percent, Averatec at 11 percent, Dell at 14 percent, Gateway at 18 percent, HP/Compaq at 14 percent, Lenovo/IBM at 15 percent, Sony at 9 percent and Toshiba at 16 percent.

If you do encounter a problem, tech support becomes critical. Apple and Lenovo/IBM rate the best, Dell is slightly above average, HP/Compaq slightly below and Sony the worst.

Thus, the top choices for notebooks are Apple, Lenovo/IBM, Averatec and Toshiba.
