Screen hinge cracked through on an Inspiron 8600

I've had a hairline crack on my hinge for a couple of months now, but since I use my laptop on a daily basis, I've never had the time to get it fixed, so I've just done my best to be careful with it. However, about a month ago, it's cracked through. Is there any way to fix this myself? (I imagine I'd need a new plastic housing for the LCD). Or will I need to contact Dell? And if anyone has had this happen to them before, how much would it cost? (I'm pretty sure the lappy is out of warranty unfortunately).

I've attached a picture of the hinge (sorry for the blurryness). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The lcd housing is relative cheap although a bit tough to take off im sure you wouldnt mind break it apart (carefully) for new housing. DELL spar eparts devision carries the housing should run you roughly 30-50 dollars for the LCD ASSEMBLY.

Thanks Machina, I was hoping that would be the case ($50 is affordable after all ^^). Do the housing come with the instructions required to fit it? Or do I need to find a service manual for it? (I remember someone saying they're on the Dell service website).

Thanks Thorndt, I'd forgotten the 8500 and 8600 shared a similar case design ^^

Arnt you under warranty? if not I presume in the 20-40 dollar range give spare parts a call if your not in warranty.

Thanks again for the advice Machina. The replacement display bezel arrived today via DHL. Cost me the _grand_ sum of $8.80, and now my display is as good as new! (Tightened the screws that hold the hinges in place whilst I had the thing in pieces, so now the display is nice and sturdy again too.

you cant imagine how much something like this costs for a notebook thats not in popular circulation like a Sony or Toshiba notebook. Those companies want an arm and a leg for an equal part.

Had that exact same problem on my first Portable, an IBM.

Hinge tension set too tight, steel parts, no adjustment possible.

IBM told me "Replace the Notebook" and I did, with a Dell.
