Any more news on this ? Such as the price ? I was thinking about buying an Asus Z63A soon but might wait if this new laptop is a better deal.

Thanks!

Wow.. that's one of the ugliest laptops I've seen in a while. Asus took a step back a few years with this one. They definitely should have stuck with the brushed aluminum touchpad- that's always been a big gloating-point on my z70v, and it's been standard on most of their new models.

Other than the fugliness, it seems like a decent system. I hope it lives up to Asus's usually high standards (ie- the internals are better designed than its exterior). I'd rather they release expensive, well designed systems than dip down into the 'budget' end of the spectrum and tarnish their reputation.

EEEEEEwwwwwww....

It appears to me that this laptop is designed to keep prices down. The DVD ROM drive has a standard slim type bezel. You probably can upgrade/put in any slim type DVD+/-RW burners instead of a specially designed bezel.

its not thatttttttttttttt bad. it could have been better like the z63a but one feature i like is the speakers up front rather than angled downward.

its not as pretty as the z63a but its not ooogly and it does have alot of cool asus features and very reasonably priced.

Honestly... this is disappointing, but I'm going to have to go for the Z62j over the Z63a

I mean, no, it's not ugly, but the Z63a is just ... well, woah. The problem is, it seems like the Z62f/j is just going to be more bang for the buck - they're saying a Core Duo setup is going to cost almost exactly the same price as an equivalent Pentium M setup, except with all the performance gains associated with the Duo. Plus, I was never honestly quite comfortable with the fact that the Z63a had integrated graphics, even though I don't plan to game much...

Can any of you resellers confirm that the Z62f is going to go for the same kinds of prices as the Z63a, with equivalent hardware? (And, if you have the info, on the price difference between the f and the j). Also, any comments on the build quality? The quality of the speakers? (they seem to be improved!) Basically I just want to know more about it it's hard enough trying to stick with one plan even when you're just considering options that are currently available! :P

EDIT: by the way, never mind. Screw the Core Duo :P it'll be hard enough to install linux on a Z63a as it is, without an entirely new build with no documentation to work with (plus I think I might be underestimating the price of the new Z62f/Z62j)

I just had to mention...

Never mind about the never mind on the Z62f. I am 100% on board with this whole Napa/Core Duo thing - after looking at ISTNC's pricing on the Z62f

The z62f are for sale now ($530). The price of the barebone is cheaper than the z63ea ($630). However, the Core Duo processors are more expensive.
