124-pin PCI Express Acer ezDock

Thread Starter
Ok, I couldn't find anything on it. Whats the use of it? Having "PCI Express" in it makes me assume it is possible to put a video card in/on it. Has anyone ever came across a "124-pin PCI Express Acer ezDock?"

If so please state its purpose. I'm just curious.

The ezDock is for plugging in all your desktop hardware, ex... monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc... easier than continually connecting and disconnecting everything manually. There is no such thing as an external VideoCard although it's a great idea and I'm sure they'll make one in a couple years.

Check out this very good review of the EZ Dock and also other peoples comments after. It says all you need to know.

Actually there is - on all PCs you can have multiple video cards supporting multiple monitors. Theres normally a BIOS option so you can set how the PC scans for them, as the first one it finds becomes the primary bootup screen.

If the EZDock had a PCI or PCI-E slot in it then it would be possible to put a video card in and run this as an additional card to the built in one inside the laptop.

Alas the "ezDock" appears to have limited functionality, and only extends the bus to the ExpressCard and PCMCIA slot controllers, instead of actually providing PCI-Express termination (although technically ExpressCard isnt that far off being PCI-E with a different pinout).

You can actually get a Cardbus to PCI bridge that will allow (multiple) external video cards to be put on the PCMCIA slot, but it wont be primary as you have to wait for the PCMCIA drivers to load before the PC can search for it.
