i bought the adapter from "pmarkham1" on ebay

OK UPDATE lol

I plugged in the 90watt AC to charge the 9cell battery because it was dying on me. I didn't think of it at the time but 20 minutes later i check my temps and their at 110 again!!! i unplugged it right away and in a second it went down to 53.

i'm not understanding, so maybe the 130w ac i have is good. why would it do this with BOTH ac's??

Another thing when the temperature spikes is there really hot air blowing out of your vent fans or super hot underneath? If your power brick shows up as not detected on boot you have a bad one. This happened to me as well and had to get a replacement. Do you get the same problem with the Inspiron Bios? I would flash back to it just for testing and see if it happens with the 90w again. If your card was really heating that fast your computer would be super hot and probably burn up my gut feeling is the temp sensor is not correct. Probably wouldn't hurt to take your 7800 apart peel off the thermal pad and clean off the gunk. See if there is any discoloration on the GPU and apply some AS5. This would eliminate that it is your 7800.

Hey, it's in Norwegian, sais it has to be connected to the wall via an "earth" connection. Like one with 3 spikes.

Then maybe that is my problem!!!, i have it hooked up to a modified extention cord (i broke the 3rd pin off to fit it in my 2 prong wall) and i have a powerbar hooked up to the extention cord.

Ladies, gentlemen, i believe we have discovered the problem. I noticed last night i was in another room and i booted off the 130watt power supply as far as i can rememeber.

i had just shut down my i9300 to reflash the BIOS but i came on this ghetto desktop to make one last check

WHEW, BRB going to go try this. on a 3 prong plug.
The 3 prong thing would make sense as the third prong serves as a ground and well, they need to be grounded :P
post #33 of 117
wait, you broke the 3rd pin off the adapter plug?

negative on that one.....

i tried 4 different 3 prong outlets and its a no go, same thing as before.... i even gave the power supply a good smack.

So what do you guys think? revert back to the i9300 BIOS??

no i broke the 3rd prong off the extention cord so i could plug it into a 2 prong plug, so that i could plug my i9300 into the ac in my room. but a powerbar, it connected to that extention cord, and the i9300 AC is plugged into that power bar... its been fine for weeks.

Sneak into the nearest office-complex with your best (and hopfully only) suit and make your way to the hardware guys and say you need a new one in a hurry :- )

OK UPDATE AGAIN

I reverted back to the I9300 A02 BIOS, and guess what, the computer boots up perfect on both the 90w and the 130w AC's.....

On the 130w ac it runs the computer at 300something mz, and on the 90w it runs it at full speed 1.73ghz, BUT the 7800gtx is still crippled. Also the 110 degrees thing is gone, i can plug in either adapter and idle temps stay aroung 47-53...

SO could this be a problem in the bios? does this not eliminate this being a hardware/installation problem?

i'm going to try i9300 bios A05 brb.
