Quick question... how much difference will you see in overall from a Pentium M 740 & Pentium M 750?

1.7ghz vs 1.86ghz?

Appreciate the info

0.16 GHz worth, of course!

if the price difference is more than around $50-$75, dont bother, its not that significant.

i think its about 40 bucks?

Generally, the 1.86 GHz is seen as the best price/performance balance. That being said, the 1.73 shouldn't be noticeably slower during everyday use, since the Pentium M derives much of its performance from its architecture and huge L2 cache, and not from clock speed. So it's really a matter of whether you want to have a little more speed, or 40 bucks. You won't lose either way.

$40? Go for it. If it's around $100, don't. The only reason I went for it is because it was a free upgrade, so it cost me nothing. I would have done it if it was like $50, too, but probably not more than that.

lame, get a 1.6GHz 400FSB overclock it to 2.13, and you save hundreds of dollars

OCing the CPU may be as easy as flipping a dip switch (z71v) or you may need to pin mod it

Search these forums or just go here (for one version of the pinmod) :

of course pin modding DOES violate your warranty

For sure it does, but for me overclocking is already a tradition.

Even my two celeron300A both still run smoothly @450MHz each on my dual board and they are already older than I thought they might ever get

I usually bump it up until the price increase goes up too fast. In Canada, 2.0 is about the sweet spot.
