Ok I am posting in here because I am a former Xps2 owner and you guys know your stuff better than any other forum. I am having a real problem here, after my laptop enters sleep mode (stand by) it won't wake up! So I have to hold the power down and shut it down and restart it. This is really annoying. I have been googling all over for a fix and can't find it. Can anybody help!!??
Here are my specs:
Hp dv4000
2gb kingston v-ram ddr 533
100gb Hitachi 7k100
2ghz
ati x700 128mb

please someone help!
thanks in advance!

I have the same problem with my 9300. It hasn't happened for quite a while, but it was doing it every other day. Would like to know for the future.

Definitely have the same problem with my XPS. Sometimes it wakes, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, I get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner. Have to force shutdown. PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!

Could it be a memory problem? Or a hard drive problem?

Have you tried a fresh install of Windows?

I did a fresh install and still getting the same problem. I put it in standby mode and click the power to wake it up, and the wifi and bluetooth leds light up but screen is blank. I have to shut it down and reboot.

Same thing.

Could it be a faulty screen inverter?

like it cannot repower.

Mine only happens when i have USB gps connected. now when it comes out of standby it always showed screen. then go black, then a bit later it would come back. Thats in the good situation.

The bad is that it stays black and all the lights are on.

I think it might be faulty memory. My desktop does it too when it goes into standby for too long. It suspends to ram so I'm guessing if it can't boot back up, then it's something with the ram. I haven't experienced this on my notebook yet but I rarely go on standby.

I use Hibernate, which is a little slower than Sleep but uses no power. I generally close any open applications and then close the lid. It takes 10 seconds or less to boot back up and is 95% reliable or better (I think it has failed twice in the month I have had it, although I do sometimes do a proper shutdown).

One thing I did notice was that, if the battery is low when it goes into hibernate mode, it can crap out and I suspect that Sleep mode may be worse in that respect. Also, the more stuff that is running in the background, the more chance that sleep will have problems, which may explain why it becomes less reliable with time since a reformat.

I know what the problem is guys it has happened to me before. It is the video card drivers you are using that is causing the problem. If you have a 6800u or 7800GTX use these drivers;

Whatever drivers you are using try something different if Dell -> Try ATI Catalyst if Catalyst or Forceware try Dell etc. In my case it was Dell drivers that caused problems with my Latitude D610.

No way man, I use XG drivers, and I have the problem still. Hell, I am a beta tester for the mobiles. I doubt it has to do with the RAM, because it doesn't happen every time. And there's no way I could afford a Windows re-install right now (too much not backed up). I have gone a LONG time without a re-install, too. It is REALLY annoying when I have something up I want to get right back to... I think it's a Dell BIOS thing, IMHO.

What versionof the XG drivers are you using? I handle RIS imaging for my company and this is a common problem with laptops and video drivers.

Hehe try the XTreme-G MobileForce 81.98-v2.25a or the Dell ones just for testing I am pretty sure it will solve your problem. I don't use hibernation so I can't test this myself.

I have this problem on my desktop. There are 2 sleep states I can choose (S1 and S3). S1 works fine, but when I use S3 it wont come out of standby mode. I like S3, though because it turns off the fans. There is no way to configure this on the crappy bioses on dell laptops, but maybe somebody knows of a utility out there that will work.

I doubt it, as I have had this problem with EVERY driver I have EVER used, and somehow I don't think 81.98's will be all that magical, LOL! I will wait until 82.12's are XG'ed, which have the tweaks 81.98's do, and appear to be slightly faster (to the tune of up to 1 FPS, but hey, it's worth it).

Anyone ever figure this out? I have a brand new 9400 with the GeForce 7900 Go and it is going to sleep and the screen will not come back after I push the power button.

I have changed the video drivers to XG_MobileForce_84.56_v2.40 and also updated the drivers to the latest ones from Dell. For now I have removed the automatic sleep and changed it to hibernate.

Anyone have any other ideas?
