replacing lcd screen.

Hi,

How's everyone doing? I stumble across this forum whenever I went looking at buying a new laptop. But I ended up buying an Inspiron 5100 from a friend for a good price. I just finished formatting the laptop and installing everything. So far, it's been working flawlessly. Especially for my first Dell. The only problems I have with it so far is the screen resolution is extremely low, 1024x748. I'm not sure if this has been done, and I would like the advice from experts on Dell laptops and lcd screens. Would it be possible to swap out the screen to one that has higher resolution? Or is the resolution hardcoded into the motherboard? Thanks ahead of time for your input. -nxcess

there is indeed a SXGA screen available for the 5100 which tops out at 1400x1050 res but aquiring one may be a tad difficult. Assuming you do post back on your findings and we can tell you if you can install it or if its even worth your nickels and dimes.

Out of stock at the moment. You can e-mail them and see if they plan on getting any back in.

If they don't have one, you might try ScreenTek:

They've got an SXGA+ screen - resolution up to 1400x1050 - available for the Dell 5100. There are other outfits, too ... LCDs4Less comes to mind.

Shoot, a quick Google search brings up quite a few places. As for how to remove / install the LCD screen, all of the 3rd-party laptop-lcd sellers provide removal instructions. Google can help there, too.
