I had a friend run getnoo on his lappy. It ran fine from what he said. He got drivers and everything else he needed. of course, hes been using *nix oses for quite a few years now and his knowledge waaaaaaay surpases my own. But, yea, i saw him run it and it ran quite nicely.

I would be interested in knowing what drivers etc he used... I get mine partially working with Gentoo and my NP5660.
I am using Radeon 9000 drivers with this, it works but doesnt "scale" the LCD screen to the different resolutions...

fell

He has a Dell(fell) inferion...sorry, inspirion, so his hardware is different then ours. But still, it (his gentoo) ran like butter...

In Gentoo, the setup is pretty standard and low level. There is no installer like Redhat and Mandrake, so you have to nkow what is in your computer before starting. Luckily, since this is the same as Debian, BYO, and a few others that are highly configurable, the start of the setup where you configure your hardware is pretty standard. It basically involves knowing what modules to build in your kernel. Look in the Linux forum at the kernel guide posted by Laclasse.

Gentoo on 5660

I am running Gentoo on my 5660, Gentoo runs perfectly (but you do have to get the latest X v4.3.0 to use the video properly)... The LCD looks VERY sharp and scaling works with the new radeon driver...

Firewire, USB, Sound, temp monitors and SVideo all work..

The only thing I havent tested yet was the modem...

Let me know if anyone needs any help with it and Gentoo...
