For me it seems that you don't "just laugh" but complain about yourself not being able to reproduce results many people are able to achieve.
Even my unchanged celeron1400 was able to get 3-3.5 hours and that cpu is not doing anything to safe batlife (and as it needs constant fanusage there is no way to safe battime with any "geekish" tools).
So if you can't get 5+ hours with your setup you didn't read carfully enough on which conditions we achieve that.
If I am defragmenting the harddrive, running on fullspeed or doing something similar I don't get this runtime either - and using word disqualifies for low resource usage as it's one of the worst written programms ever seen on earth (just my own opinion).
TBH I always ask myself why a company is allowed to be named microsoft which makes such resourceconsuming (fo r no benefit!) software like ms office.
