Now the better question is weither the 7800's are really just 7800gtx's with some of the pipes disabled.

Who will be the first to try a 7800gtx bios on the 7800go.. (speculation at this point, no data collected, might not even be an option, would have to lower the core/memory speeds (?))

As for the benchmarks that came out so far, did they overclock the 7800 ? (doubtfull)

It would be a shame if Dell's keeping this card from it's potential to make people have to buy the M170, although that sounds like something they would logically do. Even so, if that is the fact, I hope it's nothing alittle overclocking, a 9-cell battery, and/or a brick couldn't fix :P. I'd have no problem if they sell it like that but underneath allow the user to tweak it up to it's true power.

So 7800 GTX > 7800 go > 6800 Ultra or 7800 GTX > 6800 Ultra > 7800 go?

Considering the GPU specs on Nvidia's website, the 1st one. Considering the article and tests on pcmag, the 2nd one.

Reading the specs and the price and the new E1705 makes me wanna
I JUST bought my Inspiron 9300 2 weeks ago. The Inspiron E1705 is a
MUCH better deal than the I9300. Dual CPU @ 2 Ghz, 1 GB of DDR 667 by
default now, 7800 Go GPU! I guess I should have waited 2 more weeks.

Dont get down on yourself... the 9300 rocks plus that 7800 in the E1705 from what we are hearing just plain sucks...Now if we had confirmation that you can use the 9300 parts (power brick, battery) and put in the 7800 GTX... id get one today....

It's only been 2 weeks, so if you really want to you can return it since its been less than 21 days. Personally, I'm looking to buy a 9300 soon because I would prefer to pinmod a 1.8ghz to 2.4, upgrade to 7800gtx, get 2GB RAM, 130w PSU, 8 cell, and a 3 yr warranty for less than $1500 than pay $2000 for the newest computer with a worse graphics card, and a new technology CPU that at this point still isn't utilized. I'm betting that by the time it's even used by any games Merom will be out; and nobody will want dual core anymore anyway.

But, if you want a 9400, you can still return your 9300. Although you still won't be able to get the 9400 until February.

If you are still in the return window you can send it back - I probably would in your shoes. Or you may be able to eBay it without suffering too much of a loss.

hmmm, tempting. Did not think of that. Quick Question: I wonder if the 2 GB of DDR 533 I bought from NewEgg would work in it still (in a reduced mode maybe?) Also, anyone else see a faint diagonal pattern on thier TruLife screens? It is only noticable when a lot of pure white is displayed. It looks like many light grey diagonal lines running from top left to bottom right. IF that is a "defect" that could be my "reason" to return it? (though I am worried about the RAM and the 100 GB PATA 7200 RPM drive I got it). Thanks.

It wouldn't because the Yonah uses a 677 FSB, the RAM is 533. I don't think it uses the same pin configuration either but I could be wrong.

Merom is dual core too...I dunno, If I can get a motherboard and CPU for my 9300, and swap em out....for under $500, I might do it before quakecon.

I am really confused, why did MZimm say that you have to wait till Feb to get the 9400? Its on the dell site right now! And why is this new technology not a big deal for anyone other than notebookforums.com?! I havent seen any big annoucments and the new laptop is even kind of hidden on the dell site! All in all I cant see how these guys can say this new 9300 isnt an improvement when its graphics card is an upgrade than what was previously available (for those under warranty) in the 9300, better battery life, new wireless card, and better multitasking, how could it be WORSE; afterall its not THAT much more expensive. And why is the 9300 the only one with this cool dual core stuff, why not the XPS? Either Im missing something or a week on vacation completely put me out of the know on nbf.com

It seems there are two camps of thought. Some people feel there is not a big enough difference to upgrade buying the i9400 when you can buy an i9300 cheaper, pin mod it, and upgrade to the 7800 GTX. While other people, like myself, like the idea of having a dual core notebook. Either way you will have a fine notebook.

The XPS M170 will likely get a dual core revision soon. That should make for an interesting notebook.

Just because it lets you order right now doesn't mean you'll get it. It won't ship until February.

And the upgraded 7800 in the E1705 really isn't much of an upgrade over the 6800go. I'd take the 7800gtx in a 9300 over the 7800go in the 9400 any day. And dual core really isn't that much of a an upgrade.

In the UK, the 9400 is configurable with either 533MHz or 667MHz RAM, so 533MHz definitely works.

You don't have to run the memory in sync, on the Dell Uk site you can buy the 9400 with 533Mhz memory.

Someone in this forum quoted a 3Dmark05 figure of 3,800 for the 9400 equipped with the 7800Go which isn't very impressive - better than the 6800 but not the 6800 Ultra.

ya, the newegg ram works, but you really shouldnt cheap out on it. the lack of cheap ram is one of the reasons why i decided to go ahead and get a dothan.
I guess I was wrong about the DDR2. Personally though, if I'm gonna spend the extra money to get Yonah, I'm not gonna skimp and get the 533mhz RAM.
