Factory Memory, Kingston ?

I purchased an XPS gen 2 from someone and I noticed it came with 2 gig Kingston memory. They told me it was all factory but I don't think Dell sends kingston memory with their laptops. On the product sheet from dell, it says the laptop was originally suppose to have 1 gig of memory. I have to ship the laptop back because the screen does not show the boot screen and only comes on when windows starts. If I send it back are they only going to put 1 gig back in the computer? What type of memory do they ship with the XPS gen 2s?
I thought maybe the screen problem was memory related, such as that it did not take kingston 2 gig or something, so I removed a stick switched them etc. to no avail on the boot screen. Does anyone else use 2 gig kingston with any problems?

What would you do?

I use 2 gigs of Kingston

Hi pbags,
I use 2 gigs of Kingston RAM and don't have any problems thus far. I have an i9300 and upgraded my video card to a 7800gtx, and flashed the bios to the A05 version. I haven't had any hitches, and the laptop seems to be substantially faster than before.

Regarding your question as to what kind of memory should come with the Dell, it should be either Samsung, or Hynix. I've never heard of Kingston being shipped with the various Dell notebooks. That fact that there is no boot screen should not be a memory issue, but rather a problem with the bios or maybe even the hardware. I would ship it back- see if they will pay for it- and tell them that it doesn't boot correctly and that you would like them to fix it prior to returning it to you. Don't worry about the memory- it is relatively inexpensive- worry about the bootup and overall performance of the XPS2.

Good luck with it!

I was thinking about this. That way, if they do take it out and replace it with something they have, I will only be out half the cost.

Mine came with Samsung (I think - was a while ago), replaced it with 2GB of Transcend fairly sharpish though...

Kingston is a good brand, though it is all apples in our laptops (it makes no difference).
