Looking for a notebook w/ a quiet fan...

Thread Starter
hello,

I am looking to buy a notebook, not for gamming or heavy duty use. Looking for a Pentium-M 17-2.0 ghz, 60-100 GB HDD, graphics card (ATI or NVIDIA), an excellent screen 15.4 size and quality battery life without causing too much heat discomfort.

budget: 1000-1400.

The laptop will mainly be used for e-mail, web and accountig purposes. Did not like any of the toshiba models or fujitsu. acer's are too noisy and hot. Dell is out of the question.

Amy insight or feedback would be grateful.

Thanks,
Doc

ahh yes...but my issue w/ Leveno/IBM computers is that they do not have a touchpad.

If you already know this, sorry.

I think it will be fairly hard to find a quiet 15.4 notebook. Mainly b/c in this category most notebooks have a dedicated graphics card which produces heat...so they need cooling power.

If you can I would look at the 14" or 14.1" widescreen market. There are more possibilities for quiet notebooks. Look for ones without dedicated graphics cards and slower HD as there will be less need to cool them down.

er i noticed you needed 15.4 inch screen. the R series only comes in 15in. and 14 something. The R51 and R52 are configurable with a touchpad.

Dell D810 and Precision M70's are very quiet. Dell Outlet should have your price.

Not all. This statement would _definetly_ hold true for 17" computers but, for example 15.4"s with integrated
Sager 5560
Asus Z93E
Asus A6U
CompalDL71

The above are some you can look into that will probably be the quieter of laptops.

I personally own an A6U and when im not gaming (Of what games I can play) the machine is barely audible. To hear anything at all I have to put my ear virtually on the keyboard. In a small room its silent. In a lecture nobody would hear a sound. And, when it ramps up, full speed, its still not loud -- but audible.

But since you do want graphics, I vote msi-1029 :-)
