my dell lattitude c600 is having ram problems

my dell lattitude c600 is having ram problems.
it came with 128MB ram.It has two slots for RAM memory expasion.
I now have two chips the 128MB and a new Apacer 256MB.
the problem is when i put in the new chip it says decreasing memory then reduces it to 128MB or if im lucky it wont say decreasing memory but it will say "unable to start windows because system.32\DRIVERS\PCI.sys is missing or corrupt.oh i forrgot to mention that my opporating system is XP.



any help will be appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new stick is corrupt. I assume if you leave just the 256MB chip in there you always get some sort of odd problem right? Your gonna have to replace the ram since most memory comes with lifetime warranty you shouldnt have any problems replacing it.

i talked to a friend who works on computers today he said the same thing. well thanks for the info ill try to take it back.
