Acer TM8104 ATI driver updating problem

I'm one of the TM8104 lover, but I have the video driver updating problem for long time. Whenever I wanted to install the new official Catalyst Mobility driver, I was blocked by its compatibility checking program. It always shows "Thank you for choosing ATI. Unfortunately, your system is not compatible, please contact your manufacture." I am quite sure it is ATI Radeon Mobility X700 in my TM8104, and I wonder how did those people successfully update their X700 driver in their TM8104 to Catalyst Mobility 5.13? Please tell me how to do, thank you!

Hi Ghungha,

Well, the link you gave was the first one that worked for me Could you please let me know how you found it? If I go to www.ati.com I cannot find this link anywhere. How did you know that this particular link leads to the driver? (if it's not a secret of course )

Thanks for everyone's help. I can use only the last link download (post by Ghungha), but I finally updated. But there is still some little problem, such as I can never lunch the ATI CCC. It stayed froze at the introduction logo, but I still could access the 3D setting by right-clicking the ATI tray. The other problem is it made Quake IV run abnormally. Did anyone have similar problems about Catalyst 5.13? And I would like to know that what's the difference between download files provided by Wiz23 and Ghungha?

Thanks for everyone's help again

jackliu1980,

As you see, Ghungha, gave you the link from official web-site (though I still can't understand how he found it). This means that even if something goes wrong you can contact ATI. Also there is guarantee that in that files from ATI web-site there is no spyware and other staff like this (I didn't say that there is some s$%t like spyware in other files!!). I would think that those from ATI are more reliable.
But Ghungha, please!!! Let us know how you found them!!!

It's been posted many times.
I'm gonna be rich off my new book "How to use the search bar"
No offense to anyone of course.

Hi Chakz,

Ok, that's been posted many times but the question still persists. How did the first person to post this link (even if it is not Ghungha) find the link? Is there any way to do this "legally", ie. starting from official ATI web-page (www.ati.com) and clicking only on the links posted there?

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27

Anyone that has passed the "Installation Verification Software" can acess the site.

It would be helpful when we post are issues with drivers if we did a better job of designating weather we are 64 bit or 32 bit. Makes it confusing reading these forums to find out weather or not people have had success installing the latest drivers on a x64 machine or not...

Thanks

PS. Maybe someone should start a Acer x64 graphics thread. That would be nice....

I'm running XP64 on my FR4005

Hi Ghungha,

Thanks for the reply. How did you manage to pass the verification? Don't you have Acer laptop? For example, when I try to pass it I get the message that catalyst is not supported by my laptop and I should contact my laptop manufacturer...

TCD79, I was talking about x32 drivers only. Actually, I have never seen x64 Windows

Hi Metil,

The same thing happens to me. I always failed in ATI verifications as well. I brought this matter to Acer Support after I was too sure I even could not get the Ati Update from Acer Website, in Australia nor Panama.

They, infact, advise me not to get the update from there since they find it the same, the update that was posted could not be installed.

Solution they offered was installing the ATI driver from elsewhere with the v.8.163.0.0 . Weird and pethatic. I swear I won't buy any Acer for the rest of my life.

I've heard about this reference driver problem with laptops (you might have to use older drivers from laptop driver site) what models suffer from it, which ones don't, and what is the solution? Does it include both ATI & Nvidia chipsets?

I have no problems running mobile catalyst 5.13 from the link mentioned earlier (www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst) on my TM 8106.

Seems like the missing verification isn't important in this case.

Compared to the old acer drivers I even got a 400 point increase in futuremark 05.

Hi felixjo,

The driver itself from the link you mentioned can be installed just fine. The problem is that you get this link only if you pass the verification. And it looks like noone having TM81xx can pass it. That's why I am really interested how people found the link

Metil, it's as plain as the nose on your face...

Go to their site, click "drivers & software", "windows XP", windows xp drivers and software, notebooks with ati graphics, catalyst mobility 5.13...

I dont see how they could have possibly made it more intuitive or easier to find...

I don't use those, though; they might indeed fail because they dont list Acer as supported. Which is why I use the link I made that nobody paid attention to, the mobility modder. Basically you download a normal catalyst driver, the kind for desktops, and run it through the modder and everything will be peachy. Works great like that on my TM8104.

I don't see any improvement this way though, the driver still isn't specified to work with the acer notebook.

Or did I miss something?

Hi nephilim,

I understand that it may sound silly BUT! Please show me the full path you need to go to get to this particular link. If you can do it I will admit you are genius! Because all I can find on the page you described was the detecting software that reports that my video card is not supported and I should contact the laptop manufacturer
