Inspiron 6000d - computers BLACKS OUT at random.

Good god.

Just when I thought I had settled all of my i6000d problems (from the screen & optical drive issues), this has been happening.

Basically, the computer is essentially shutting down at random intervals. It's happened about five times now. See specs below for any computer-spec-related questions.

Temperatures are good.
Very very clean system with very carefully selected processes.
The only way to recover is to hold the power button down. I was watching some anime and burning a CD and it just happened again a few minutes ago. All the sound cutoff and the computer screen went black.

The computer was purchased 22 days ago with 4 year complete care with 4 year limited warranty, so I'm covered, but I need to figure out what the devil is going on first.

NOT overclocking anything; haven't been for a while.

I'm at a loss; it's happened several times, at random times and intervals.

Dows it shut down after slight movement? Does it happen when using cd drive?

Do you get the error message when booting back up? check the error message for any clue... ie if any software caused it.

Try reseating memory/wifi card.

random shut off leads me to believe there is a loose connector on the power supply to the mobo.

is it instant off? or does it take a while to power itself down?

From what I gather it's still on but non-responsive. In that case, I'd look towards the video card/drivers. Try omegadrivers.

It happens at random. Last time it had CD-ROM burning, but one other time, it didn't.

No error message. Nothing. Just black screen and a forced restart.

The computer ITSELF doesn't shut off, in as much as ALL activity on the computer is ceased and monitor blacks out.

I'm already using the latest Omega drivers.

Driver problems. I had problems before, similar to that. Dad (who's using the 6kd) is also having the problems but he's not using Omega drivers, he's using 5.12 catalyst, I upgraded to 5.13 and it fixed the problem.

maybe not drivers. maybe a bad monitor. can you still hear sounds and stuff playing on your laptop? like can u hit window-u-u to shut down?

this could really be ALOT of things, best bet is to let dell take a look.

it could be the monitor, the video card, something loose on the mobo, a bad driver, a bad xp install, REALLY ANYTING

I'll upgrade to 5.13 and see if that helps.

really the only things you can try are a reformat, and reinstall drivers. other than that, dell will have to replace 1 or more things, @ their convience. seems like your having some big troubles with this lappy, and that sux

Actually, ALL of the problems have been fixed (except this).

Monitor HAS BEEN FIXED!

Turns out the last replacement was a WUXGA+ and NOT a WSXGA+.

I bumped up the resolution and the text became 400% guesstimately sharper! The light leakage also went down considerably

Here's the new video: http://antosdesigns.com/dell/UPDATED_%232._WUXGA.AVI

Compare this to running the standard res:

Compared to my FIRST replacement (worst)

I am VERY VERY glad Dell made this mistake. I have to say that I was frightened of WUXGA on a 15.4" monitor from user reviews, but I have no what everyone is talking about. This monitor rules! I urge anyone with decent eyes to get the WUXGA

Glad you got it fixed.

I also think the WUXGA is great... my old 8600 had one. The only reason i got the WSXGA this time round as when i ordered this thei was told the WUXGA would take an extra 3weeks... damn UK service!

However i am very please with my screen, virtually no light leakage, and looks great - its an LG not samsung.

That's why. LGs are great on the i6000d.
