Hi, I just purchased a HP nx6110 notebook and want to ugrade the 256mb ram. There are two SODIMM slots, one has a 256MB PC2700 333MHz 200-pin ECC DDR SDRAM SODIMMM.

1. How much Ram would you recomend for email/web/msoffice usage.
2. does the ram in both slots have to be from the same manafacturer or can I buy generic for slot two
3. If I do buy generic is there any other specs that I need to watch for
4. where is the best place to buy ram at a good price

Thanks

1. Depends on your OS. 512 MB is what I recommend for XP with email/web/msoffice. 1 GB is prefer.
2. No. Just try to match the speed if you can.
3. Get a good brand. I personally stay away from Kingston and Simpletech. I normally get OCZs or Cosair
4. Newegg.com. If you are in CA, get it next day for $4 shipping.

Good luck

Thanks!
One last question, can I get a non ECC extra ram chip if the the existing ram is ECC?

You can probably tell by the price. ECC ram are typically more expensive and slow. ECC rams are for server to avoid errors. Even if you can afford them, stay away and get the non-ECC. I saw a 1 GB chip for $70 on Newegg this morning.

Good luck.
