5.1 surround Sound and my M3438G

Hi,

I just got my new M3438G and first off....im well impressed with this machine. I had originally ordered a Sager and was a bit worried about the build quality of the Fujitsu, but i have to say its great so far....Its light (compared to my old Sager 9860) and quiet which is great....

One thing though. Im not to sure how to set up my 5.1 speakers, i have three cables comming into the computer and i dont know which one goes where. The cables are different coloured, One black, one orange and one green (if i remember right). Anyone know which one goes into the SPDIF hole on the left side of the computer?

Cheers....

Ben

hmmm...Im no expert but I think you need somekind of adapter. I use only a optical cord with a 3.5mm optical plug in one end. Its more easy.

Well I'm using this cable to connect my M3438G to my Corda headphone amp:

http://www.hificables.co.uk/ProductD...d-c13bad867c63

So the cable looks like that. Two regular looking connectors on one end (2xRCA) and one connector on the other (3.5mm minijack).

EDIT: I just realised that we are talking about an optical cable So you want a cable that has has an optical connector on one end and on the other similar connector as in my link (3.5mm minijack). I've gotta say that I've never actual seen that type of cable. I know that higher-end hifi brands do not sell those... or I at least haven't seen one in their selections.

This may be the cable for you although I'm not 100% sure. Check it out (toslink-to-minioptical):

By the way, I don't have to be a betting man to guess that lovers of snake oil will comment on my brand suggestions

The last one is the right one. I got one very cheap, 5 meters long.
Std optical in one end, 3,5mm optical plug in other. Works great.

Hmm, what about the subwoofer jack? That cable only provides connection to the green and black cables (front and rear, or left or right, not quite sure now). Can't we use the subwoofer with the spdif connection?

And does the spdif in the M3438G really outputs 5.1 sound?

Cheers!

I think I know what you're talking about.
You have the old fashioned analog speakers where there's one wire for left right, one for side/back left right, and one for center and sub.
One easy way to do it is to go to a store like Best Buy, and buy a 3.5mm audio splitter. Buy 2 of them. Connect the first one into your computer. then to one end, connect one of 3 plugs. To the other end, connect the other splitter. and to both of the new ends,

There's probably a setting in your audio control panel to enable 5.1 speakers. I know there was one for my realtek audio...

Thanks for the help, that's what I was talking about.

Well, meanwhile I decided to buy an external sound card because I purchased 5.1 headphones that needed those 3 inputs (rear/ front/ center).

Anyway, anyone that has this doubt can get it answered here.

Cheers!
