Peer to peer with Acer 3003WLMi

Is it possible to use wireless peer to peer with the Broadcom Wi-Fi?

According to Microsoft I can use peer to peer with XP SP2 but after struggling for two weeks I'm about to give up.

My main PC has a Belkin USB \Wi-Fi adapter and this Driver "properties/advanced " allows selection of Ad-Hoc or Infrastrucure.

However the Broadcom Driver has no such selection.

I can get the two systems to connect to each other as indicated at the bottom of the screen, but neither sees the other computer when I go to Network Places. File sharing is selected on both systems and the files show up in the local "SharedDocs". Both Computers show the same Workgroup in "Computer Name".

I only need occassional file sharing and internet access via the main PC so I'm rather reluctant to invest in a router apart from adding to my forest of interconnects.

Is there a Broadcom Driver that will allow Ad-Hoc / peer to peer?

Any help will be much appreciated.

Bingo !!! I'm almost there - the problem was that SP2 menus are different to the older XP. When I've finished I'll post how I did it.

Rt click on Belkin icon in tray and select "Use Windows Zero configuration".

Select "View available wireless networks" after rt click on wireless icon in tray.

Select "change order of selected networks" in left column.

Select "Advanced" at bottom (not tab)

Select "Computer to Computer Only"

This MUST be done first before proceeding.

Return to previous screen.

DELETE ALL NETWORKS SHOWN and then add the new connection.

Initially - enter new network with no security.

This will cause the new network to be peer to peer but you will have to set up security after checking it is OK. (Select WEP and then enter 5 or 10 characters)

Select Windows Zero Configuration after each re-boot.

You will have to repeat this for each computer.

Each computer should then see the shared files on the other computer.

I now have peer to peer operation but still get drop outs every few minutes. However as it re-connects automatically within a few seconds it's no major problem.
