Looking for hard drive upgrade recommendation for i9100

Like many 9100 users out there I received my i9100 with a puny 40GB HD. I travel way too much and lugging my collection of movies/TV shows in my backpack is getting tedious. I have considered buying a 60 GB USB (2.5") drive to store my videos.

I've read a number of threads here and come up with two possible solutions:

1 - Buy an external USB HD (60GB pocket drive for about $100 off ebay), or ...

2 - Upgrade my i9100 HD from 40 to 80 or more. Buy an external 2.5" USB enclosure and throw the Dell 40GB drive in it. Store the videos on the 40.

I know what option 1 above will cost ($100 with shipping) but I have no idea what drive to upgrade to under option 2. Can you please recommend something in the 80 GB/5400 RPM drive to use in the 9100?

I would love to hear your opinions on this topic as (for the most part) I respect the opinions of the users here.

Thank you

Noooo!!!

That is a very good harddrive...just bought that...for 236 dollars!!!! Man I just received it Thursday and now its 209 dollars!!! Come on!!!! But replacing your harddrive to any 7200rpm drive will makes much faster. I used to have a 40gb harddrive and chances are it spins at 4200rpm. The space and speed is well worth the price. Plus zipzoomfly has free two day FedEx shipping.

Thanks for the recommendations. I was not considering a 7200 RPM because of both the extra cost and heat created (over a 5400 RPM drive). My unit get very hot and my budget is small (for this project).

Any recommendations on either an 80 or 100GB HD running at 5400 RPM?

Thanks.

Surprise!

Yes 7200rpm drives are faster...but I have to say that the Hitachi Travelstar runs the same...if not cooler. My old 40gb 4200rpm harddrive temperature would average 42C during the mid-day (Hawaii) and around 50C when defragging or scanning for viruses. Now my 100gb 7200rpm harddrive doesn't pass 40C during the mid-day and I never seen the temperatures rise over 43C...even during intense harddrive use! That's something to think about.

Although 5400rpm is the norm and you are on a tight budget...80gb would always be cheaper but if you really need the space...100gb will be a better investment and leaves you with more room.

Zipzoomfly.com only has a 100gb 5400 on their site...150 new...but free two day air with FedEx! Can't beat that. That's about around a 20-30 dollar price difference with 80gb drives you can find at other online stores.
