I was just wondering which processor people used to pin-mod.

I used the 1.6, best choice.

1.5, still havent done it yet though. might actually do it today if i dont have anything else to do.

Ya my setup is surprisingly cool...

1.6@2.13 is idle at 26C
7800GTX is idle at 44C

Can't beat that!

excellent choice, with volt modding available you have an almost guaranteed overclock success
post #10 of 64
why voltmod just to get an extra 100mhz?
post #11 of 64
drizek... I think he meant voltmod'ing in order to provide 99.9% Prime95 stable results.
post #12 of 64
This is getting ridiculous, some people are saying undervolt, and then some are saying to overvolt.
post #13 of 64
Not really, if you run stock you can undervolt but if you want to overclock you often have to add a little more voltage...
post #14 of 64
id rather sacrifice a little speed from my pinmod to get a good undervolt. what max voltage are you guys with the 1.6pinmods doing?

Ick, here's my opinion: It's ridiculous and seems utterly contradictory to mess with the volts. Undervolting at normal frequency and overvolting when you're OCing, some trying to lower temps some trying to max their cpu or w/e...

Well, different strokes for different folks...

Some people want a cool and quiet system so undervolt, others want to eek out every last bit of performance (or get extra performance on the cheap, aka pin-modding) so overclock and overvolt, others (such as yourself) seem to be happy just the way things are.

As for messing with the volts, nothing rediculous about that, just basic electronics...

I have a 1.6 Pin Mod, 1st attempt worked I used a little piece of wire from a old lcd cord, it was very hard to get that little wire in the hole, had to use a pair of needle nose plyers. 1.6/2mb/400mhz
post #18 of 64
how would i pin mod a 1.7ghz pm ? how do you volt mod..because i have a 2.0ghz and my sisters getting a new laptop so i can pick her processor and give her mine and then pin mod say a 1.7 ghz.

1.6 -> 2.13 for 6000D
1.7 -> 2.26 for 9300

Both worked out perfectly, idle around 26, load never over 50.

Cannot undervolt 1.7 -> 2.26 on 9300. Anything under stock 1.34v makes SuperPi unstable.

shocker, read the sticky at the top of this forum on it. For overvolting, read the thread in my sig. Voltage modification is just another way to make your computer do what you want, nothing big about it. And even overvolted, the Pentium Ms still run amazingly cool: mine tops out at 51C in most games and 57C under prime95 testing.
