are you guys buying the old tech or waiting a few weeks or month to get the new Intel Yonah

I'm definately waiting. Too much innovation to buy now. Chances are although the performance of todays notebooks might simply lag behing newer notebooks. They will essentially be old news. I would rather wait and keep in tune to whats new. It a big investment to last a while, why not wait

I'm buying my laptop next week but it's because I can't live without one. I would have rather wait, but how long will I have to wait? I don't see what new innovations are coming (Intel Duo and ExpressCard maybe). Either way, older laptops will always be behind newer ones. I bought my laptop in 2001. It had USB 1, no ethernet card, no wireless, no firewire. I managed to live with it for 4 years (I bought PCMCIA cards though to get ethernet and wireless). If you can afford to wait, then wait, but you may be in that same situation even after waiting for a year because there will always be innovations.

dont buy until the absolute last.

for example.

when i bought the Z71v for my bro, it was still the freshest thing out of the oven, however about 2-3 weeks later Ferarri 4005 and all the other Turions started hitting up the market. I am not complaining, the ASUS has been good...but you get the point.

when you feel the pressure that you must have it now, then put in your order.

Will most likely wait

For me, it will depend on price, but for what I'm looking for, I'd either have to make sacrifices or wait for new technology. I want a thin and light that I can use for moderate gaming. The new Sony SZ will offer a far more powerful dedicated video card in a 13.3'' notebook. Nothing currently on the market comes close. Once the price structure on these models comes out, I'll make my final decision.

I wanted to wait for dual core, etc. I couldn't wait any longer due to needing it for school. Besides dual core the other thing Im waiting for is larger hard drive and some kind of high capacity dvd (blue ray or hd dvd). I don't know when these type of features will be available probably not until 2007.

Waitng. But not becasue I want the new tech (which BTW I do) but becasuse I don't have $ right now.

Ordered today:
Sager 5720 V
(paid with echeck, takes 3-4 days to clear)

Don't need the duo processor because I'll mostly game on this thing or do simple stuff at work. P M 2.0 is just fine for me as far as other people say.

I ordered a Thinpad T43p a couple of weeks ago, and hopefully will receive it on Monday. If you hold off on buying a notebook waiting for the next technology to come out, you'll never buy any. For me, the capabilities of the system I'm getting should be enough for my needs for the next three to four years.

I was going to order a sager 9750 w/ 3800+ x2 next week. Don't really need it now NOW cuz all i will do is game on it but I wan'ted one since the end of november. Would u guys reccomend for me to wait, for something even better than the amd 9750??

I am mostly holding off because Duo supposed to offer better battery life, but I am so tempted to get MS-1022 which is previous tech and the price hasn't dropped yet.

how long do you guys think it will be for the new Intel Yonah to be available on Dell notebooks?

I'm about to buy another 700m but if I can get it within the next month with the Yonah I guess it would be wise to wait right?
That is exactly what I would like to know as well, I am in the market for a new dell as well.

I'm waiting until Core Duo comes out on Asus laptops. But if a competitor offers DVI-out on a lightweight 15.4 incher, I could be swayed.
Im wanting to buy one now and another at the end of the year to replaced my notebook below. The one i want to buy now is an ultraportable 10.6 dothan/sonoma - NOT with yonah, but looking for cheap prices.

The one at the end of the year will be the dell xps m170 with merom and nvidia g80 graphics.

Have you looked at the Acer Travelmate 8200?

I am waiting until Mermom comes out next year. It will be around the same time that MS Vista comes out.
I don't know how this started but I've noticed a lot of people reffering to it as Mermom...

I believe the name is Merom
Why do people wait so much? You can wait for yonah... but then merom will in the news and you'll have a bad taste in your mouth. Instead of waiting for technology, i waited to find myself a good deal on something i need [and that could satisfy my wants].

It all depends on the person, but im not one of those people who pay an exhoribtant amount of cash for that 5-10% gain in performance.

Don,t buy yet! Wait for Yonah & Merom?

Intel,s new Pentium M processor 'Yonah' is expected to launch in first qurter of 2006 It will be dual core. While next one dual core 64-bit MEROM will be launched in the 2nd half of 2006.

Anybody who buys a laptop now just after 7-8 months, he may find his laptop processor two generations old, single core and 32-bit compatible only?

What do u think he should wait for a couple of months for at lest Yonah to be launched?

Even if you don,t go for Yonah at that time you can save some bucks as Pentium-M price will fall a bit, moreover 'Vista matters' may become more clear!

Anybody even having Pentium-3 notebook may not feel so bad as compared to Pentium-M as basic difference is speeda and performance but with next two processors there will be an entire difference of artitechure, 64 bit and dual core, as well as performance and speed. What do you think about this.

Still more, in the last quarter of 2006( not so sure about time), Intel based Mac notebooks wil be launched that may create some new Mac users!!

Oh my God, I think better not to buy until end of 2006, LOL.

Also I wonder what AMD will do to compete as its main edge( 64 bit) will finish as soon as Merom launches and Merom will have another edge of being Dual core and even Yonah may supercede Turion as it will be dual core that may have more application today than 64 bit technology which is yet to be evolved.
