EE Chip

post #1 of 9

Does anyone know when Alienware plans to offer the EE chip with their notebooks? Sager already offers it!

Go-L was the first the voodoo then sager and i hope AW is next. but if they really are geting slamed with orders then I don't see it happening because there is no need. I want one. Call AW and talk to them and see if they have plans....

Waste of money... at least that is my opinion.

you guys are probably better off with the new Athlon chip, or just waiting. Both chips run too hot, and the P4EE doesn't offer enough performance over the std. P4 to justify the additional cost (1/3d extra).

Tom's Hardware has a couple of articles on both chips, and how consumers are getting shafted by both companies with these chips.

video editing on laptop...EE=worth it

Have to second Yoda on this one, wait for a better chip. We have some demo extremes to code against and there is really little if not any difference. And they do run HOT!

If you think about it the "major" upgrade in the EE is the 2mb of cache, do you even know if your using the 1mb you have now?

Usually not... and having done quite a bit of video editing myself I can tell you guys that the difference is negligable, definately not worth the increase in price

Hash = no change
RETAS = 5 seconds
Adobe Premiere = 10 seconds
Photoshop = no change
Bryce = 15 seconds

That's just what I tested... animation, image and some video rendering.

The system used was a 3.2Ghz P4EE, 800Mhz FSB and 1Gb RAM with 8200 Rpm drives vs. my AW lappy (same specs save for the processor, which is a 3.2Ghz P4).
