HELP! My M3438G display has stopped working because of some software install!

Sorry for the panic in the title, but my M3438G's display has just stopped working and it looks pretty bad. While trying to install some driver software (Magic Tune) for my second monitor (a Samsung 193P) that was connected to my laptop trough DVI, i had to reboot, and when the laptop restarted, the image just went away.
All it would show now is some strage color patterns, that fade out over time and become either some other color, or they finally go black. I am very unhappy, as support in my country takes a lot of time and is poor quality and i depend a lot on my laptop, as i do all my work on it.
I thought it would be software related, so i reinstalled windows, but no luck; i can't even see the boot menu, or enter bios, the screen simply doesn't show nothing any more, except those strange colors. I can't even see the bios menu on the other display. It just shows some strange ASCII characters.
I really fear hardware damage in the lcd or related systems, but it seems absurd... how can a software install (may it be driver related) ruin things that bad? I think the video board is partially ok, as i can still use a second monitor connected on DVI.

Please, if anyone can help, with ideas / suggestions, it would be great! I am in some trouble right now...

Sorry, cant help you. But Im suprised. If you are lucky its only something with the settings for video. But I dont know how that can be since you reinstalled Windows. Have you formatted the harddrive, because just reinstall does not overwrite everything?

I would be willing to bet that you had a coincidental failure of either you VRAM or some part of the flat panel circuitry. I'd put my money on the vid chipset and video memory though. If it was only software or driver related you could have simply rebooted into safe mode and got rid of the nasty driver but since you reformatted it already and it didn't fix the problem with the old driver reinstalled again then you almost have to say hardware. Best of luck to you.

long time ago my friend had the same problem
but that was with tft monitor, switching between dvi and analoge output
the problem got resolved by connecting another pc @ that monitor but how ya do this in a laptop?
no idea
The fix involves updating the affected PC's drivers and resetting the monitor's EDID, or extended display identification data, which contains the settings for the monitor. When the EDID is corrupted by the driver mismatch, it can cause a display not to work
this happens because of the dvi output, check out the web or send support ticket to fujitsu support to know how to fix,
hope this will help

I left my laptop to be serviced, and i received an answer today. It seems that the motherboard has to be changed, as there is a problem with the connectors from the motherboard to the video card. My system was not the only one, they had at this time one more system with the same exact problem, it must be a common flaw. They said they would order a new motherboard and change it, and then everything should be fine. If i'm lucky withing 2 weeks i will have it back.

I very much like my amilo, and it was the best choice (best power one can buy for that money), but it seems build quality had a little to suffer.

Anyway, now i'm waiting for my laptop to get back. i'll keep u informed & thanks for all the help!
