Buying gaming laptop - Not sure which one to get

Hey all,

I'm new here and was hoping to get some good advice on which laptop to get for gaming. This will be a desktop replacement and I travel a lot with work and wish to use it to play games while bored in my hotel room. I was always hellbent on Alienwares, but I just visited the forum there and it really scared me. There seem to be A LOT of problems with them. In a nutshell this is what I'm looking for

17" display
full size keyboard
1GB RAM (to start)
HD - lowest size, doesn't matter at this time
1920x1200 clearview
warranty/tech support etc

the processor doesn't matter to me, because I haven't seen the difference and I've used both AMD and P4. My desktop is an AMD 64 and I like it, no issues. Processor speed AMD 3500+ or more P4 3.2Ghz or more

Any help is greatly appreciated. I have two friends who own Gateway gaming laptops and they love them and have had no issues.

thanks for everything

Jennifer

I've been VERY happy with my M170. It was pricey, but I certainly don't regret it. I had a zd7000 before this machine (3.06Ghz/Go5600/2GB), and the M170 will run circles around it.

It's lightweight and doesn't run hot. Those are good points if you want to take it somewhere, although mine is strictly a desktop replacement.

Good luck!

You should also look at the Sager 5720. 7800GTX for all that gaming goodness.

I'll back the Sager 5720. Very powerful nice quality.

I believe Dell laptops have better sound quality than the Sagers.

Most Dells I've seen recently have very flat and soft sound. The Sagers I've seen offer very loud sound but somewhat lacking in bass. The Sagers also have Real Tech sound drivers. I'm not sure which drivers the Dells are using.

Honestly, who in the hell uses laptop speakers much anyways? I mean yeah it's nice, but use headphones or real speakers if you want some sound. I can't wait for my 5720 to arrive, I still am using my zd7000, and it has some reall good speakers, but the pain on the speaker grill chipped off a bit and it shocks my wrist lol.
