i6000d 'horrendous' monitor problem solved (videos!)

If you recall from my previous threads, my i6000d came with a horrible light leakage and contrast problem (see this video: http://antosdesigns.com/dell/dell_light_6000.mpg)

Anyways, after receiving the THIRD monitor replacement, I was finally marginally satisfied because the monitor didn't have the contrast problem, yet had the problem with the light leakage and a new problem--extremely fuzzy text compared to all the other monitors and my i8600c's WSXGA+.

Anyways, I updated my drivers and noticed that my resolution meter was going HIGHER than 1680x1050. WTF!? So I bumped up the resolution and it actually RAN 1920x1200 resolution without any fuss. The screen cleared up! The text was 50000% clearer to read and the light leakage was dramatically reduced.

EDIT: Did a mod edit my post or something? Some of my post is missing!
--> I had this with it:::: The idiots at Dell gave me a WUXGA replacement instead of my WSXGA replacement! LOL! I basically saved $50 and got a superior monitor. I deserved this shit though--after all the problems Dell put me through.

Here's the video for the WUXGA in monitor in 1920x1200 resolution: http://antosdesigns.com/dell/UPDATED_%232._WUXGA.AVI
Here it is again in 1680x1050 res: http://antosdesigns.com/dell/UPDATED_i6000d_light.AVI

Moral of the story: Get the 1920x1200. The text isn't THAT small as people make it out to be. I was scared of it before I actually ran it. Now I'll never go back.

Can you tell guys, what driver did you downloaded and installed to get that
"1920x1200 resolution" ?

Glade to hear about your "perfect" screen you wanted.

Well, it's just the ATi 5.13 drivers + Radlinker.

I was using Omega's 5.12 ATi-version drivers and while it was showing that resolution, it didn't actually boot to it! I upgraded to 5.13 to see if that would fix my "black screen" problem.

Good to know you got the problem fixed, i still think it was the computer, and not the model of the screen,

Huh? The computer?

How is light leakage and a brightness + contrast problem (both of which were fixed with a new monitor) NOT a monitor problem??

It could be a manufacturing/wiring problem, power/voltage/board problem there are so many variables. Ive had the same problem with an LCD monitor with a desktop, changed the computer, solved the problem.
And you have to remember that the new monitor has different voltage/power usages. Theres no telling but that sure was a lemon

I've got horrible nearvision with contacts correction (-3.75).

It doesn't get blurry at all. On the contrary, I actually welcome the increase in res.

Anything greater than this though would be too small, lol.

oh wow...so i guess that's as good as it gets eh? I dont think Im going to trade in my monitor anymore, in that case. My display is pretty similar, as you have seen. Thanks for the info!

by the way, that 8500 screen is really black!

By the way, what is radlinker?

RadLinker is tweaker/linker for ATI Radeon based graphics cards. It allows you to create a "RadLink", a special kind of shell link (a.k.a. shortcut) to your games/programs that allows you to change it's individual settings. A RadLink will look and act just like a normal shortcut except it's property settings can be custom tailored for your video settings. It also allows you to create custom profles for your normal shortcuts or .exe files.
