That is still not enough volts. The 51m needs 180+.

There is no way it uses 180 volts!

its 180watts! Big difference!

read drews post again!

You only have 110-120V running in your house!
Unless you got it hooked to some weird 220V dryer outlet!
I have run my laptop on my 200watt 120v car adapter works fine!
I will take pics if you want!

Thanks for the info brain

I'll look later but on the AW forums...

The Admin was saying the current in Volts from these devices is not enough constant current. Either they're full of it and want to sell more batteries, which I doubt (they probably break even on battery sales) of they are seriously concerned about warranty issues with burnt our MoBo's.

soo. Alienware needs to make us a car adaptor/power inverter designed for our notebooks. Until then, stock up on batteries

Here is what I used!
Works fine to dark out to take pictures right now will takesome of it in my car tomorow that and my car is realy dirty!
I think I picked this thing up for 40$ I don't think it is plane worthy but if I can find a smaller verion I will let you know!
Trust me this thing is 300watts that is more than enough for any apliance it ran a tv and an xbox in a van I'm sure it will handle a laptop.
What the alienware people are saying is true those crappy little laptop car plugs are no ggod in this case and are not up to the task of running this laptop this however is vastly different this is a power inverter has a transformer inside that ups the wattage. Note make sure car is running before using will run out your car battery!

Interesting....although AW techs say NOT to use anything to power the laptop up remotely.

And you say you have no problems running your lappy on it?

I did not get a computer electronics degree for nothing!
Those techs are probably refering to something you would plug strait from your laptop to your cqar adapter those will not work and will give in sufficent power these however can supply power to any device at a constant rate just remember to plug in after car is started and un plug before it is turned off. It would probably not hurt it to remin pluged in but the inital start of the engin could cause over voltage so just on the safe side. I will take out to car tommorow and plug in my laptop and take some pics of it working I may also stick my voltmeter in it and show you what is coming out should be pretty steady power source.

Ok picture time!

Here are some pictures from my exploits!
I will put wifi range pictures in another thread

Excusemy car it is really dirty it is just a plain old mercury mystique my parents got for me not much but gets me from A to B only 9 miles to work and back so I'm never in it all that long. almost paid for though.

Oh well anyway 300wat power inverter works great tesed for about an hour wnet on the internet ran 3dmark played DVD. Power meter stayed at 100% and even recharged my battery. I would say at 300watts you would be pretty safe using this thing for extended road trips only down side lap gets warm in a cold car this could be good!

I used it from the passanger seat and the drivers seat nighbors though i was crazy testing my wifi drive 5 feet stop test drive 5 more feet stop test. all I did was refresh google till could not refresh any more. I realy was not concered with the signal just how far out could an internet connection be made.

ok no more chit chat here are some pics!
