Not even in production yet, so if you can wait... it's a plus.
I honestly don't know if I can wait I'm getting my SZ today...I'll see how it does and make my decision in a week or so I suppose.

What is your honest guess on when the W3J will be available? How much battery life would I be losing from going from the integrated p.o.s. optional video card in the SZ to the x1600 at all times?

I honestly can't commit to anything at this point.
If it's not even in production, who knows...

I have been reading post on this forum for a while. Should I go sony SZ or W3J? I don't need it right away, but I'm very unfamilar with Asus notebooks.

Needs

spreadsheet
School
DVD
Music
wifi very important
good battery life 4+ hours
looking to go small for travel 14 or less prefer widescreen
Most Important
Screen that can be seen outside in daylight is very important
Can anyone give me more info on ASus screens, are there 2 types? which one would be better for direct sunlight? Will the W3J be customizable with the screen?
Where to buy ASUS??

thank you

Since the W3J will not be out for AT LEAST a month [not in production], and you did not mention gaming above, I would go for the same resolution sister notebook, W5F.
It's a 12" ultra light model with a 1280x800 res and many other cool extras.
The single core model is currently $100 off [by ASUS] too, so up to you.
I use this model and it's great for carrying around and traveling.
Works fine outside too... I found that sometimes if it's very bright outside, I can turn off the backlight and use the sunlight and see the lcd still.
Just a thought.

Thank you, what do you think about the sony SZ compared to either ASUS screen outside. I'm also concerned becuase I would like to get my hands on a ASUS before purchasing. And 12'' maybe too small.

I can't tell you about the Sony's LCD, but based on the current ASUS Ensemble lineup and comparing it to any other notebook lineup, the ASUS lineup usually comes out one top [including this case vs. the SZ].

Regarding the 12" concern, I thought it would be small, but it's not too bad.
The resolution makes the biggest difference.
I think 1280x800 on 12" of widescreen LCD is perfect.
You can always return it in 15 days if you don't think so.

Why not just go with Z63A and customize it? What do they mean by ensemble?, no customization?
Although I don't game, I will do a little film editing. Am i better off waiting for the reviews on W3J?
Is ASUS bigger overseas then in the states?

Z63a has integrated graphics, which would perform significantly less than the W3 ensemble models. The W3j will have a significantly more powerful graphics card, and the dual-core CPU can also help with film editing, as some of the editing engines are now becoming optimized for dual-core. And yes, ASUS is bigger overseas than in the US.
Thanks,Sounds like I should wait then I can compare it to SZ 160.
Djembe is correct.
You may get lucky and be able to use a Z63A, depending on the film editing software requirements.
What are the hardware [grahpics] requirements and what software are you using?
Will be purchasing new software. What the last you heard about release date W3J? Will have the crystal shine screen(better for outdoors) or color shine.
Late April, but not confirmed.
It will have both features [high contrast and glossy LCD].
Thanks, I will keep your web address just in case I go with it. By both features you mean chose one or other?
No, both features will included in the W3J.
At the same time....
How they do that????????????
What do you mean?

Crystal Shine = High Contrast
Color Shine = Glossy Finish

Both of these features are on the current W3V, and will be on the future W3J.
