Asus New Release Thread - G1p, G2p, V1Jp and more! - Page 13

more like a bigger version of M3N/Z61a to me.

Yay for dull looking CBB notebooks....
Wow...the Z71v and Z70va are WAY better looking than that...
it's about the price and specs, with true barebone laptops you can say now the chassis is kind of disposable, at least to me. I don't want to be stuck in the same platform for too long.
I don't have the energy to look it up now, but it was suggested (by Justin over at NBR if my memory serves me) that Asus wants to intentionally put a wider gap, design-wise, between their ensemble models and their built-on models in order to give their ensembles more brand recognition.

And I agree with Oakumai: it does kinda remind me of an Acer... hrm...
Not really because Asus wants their Ensemble Notebooks looks better than barebones.
These CBB notebooks are built by the request of Intel, they called it Notebook Alliance and they are Quanta, Compal and Asus, the notebooks are not entirely design by Asus or other Notebook Alliance, all CBB components are designed by Intel by not made by Intel.

Intel wants notebook to be more customizeble just like desktop PCs, on the desktop, let's say you have a nice CoolerMaster or Thermaltake chassi and when you upgrade platform all you have to do is just swap the MB and keep the nice chassi, you can't do that on the Notebooks. with CBB notebooks you can keep the LCD and pull out all other compoents and just sell the MB with chassi and buy a new one. Even LCDs, you can upgrade to WSXGA if you don't like WXGA.

Whether or not that's the plan or not, it makes sense with CBB in play.
When you have to create that many standardized parts, it pretty much sets the foundation for dull looking products...
Either way, if I were ASUS, seperating the gaps wouldn't be a bad thing.
Keep in mind they have a brand to push now...
i tried to warm up to the dull grey look for a few minutes and it was almost working...until i started looking at pictures of the z70va. "I am Jack's utter sense of disappointment."
by the way what is CBB?
it's good for people like me always change platforms, but it sure not attract to people who is looking for a better looking notebook and willing to pay couple hundred dollars more for it but will have to stuck with the same platform.

CBB: Common Building Block, notebooks using CBB components are interchangeble with diffrent brands.
Intel's "Common Building Block" standard for whitebooks.

Yes I agree but expect they never ask you to pay for the same price as Z71V or Z70VA.
ah theres the rub. if the pricing is "significantly lower" than the z71v and z70va for all the goodies you get then count me on the CBB wagon.
It is much lower than Z71V and Z70VA, by the way, W3J shipment delayed again, now it's end of May.
So what are the implications for build quality on these new CBB compliant chasses? Looks aside (though I gotta say, they look like Dells), how well would these materials hold up compared to, say, the carbon fiber chassis on the Z70VA?
I have said it before, with Intel's CBB standardizations driving the design of these notebooks, there is very little room left for an ASUS Notebook...
Quality on the chasis will not be up to par with the previous carbon fiber composite models.
The main points of CBB are the swapability of parts and lower price points...
Thanks Intel for pushing the American tech market further into the cheap.
there will be a review soon for NBF, not by me.
Anyone have any word on a release date for the Z96J? I am looking to buy a 15" laptop, and since this one beats the pants of the MS-1039 (dual core VS turion) I am seriously looking at this machine - if it will be out soon.
I think I heard June at the earliest for the ETA of the z96j. Although the s96j is out now, which is the same notebook with a WXGA screen instead of a WSXGA, and it has no internal bluetooth.

I was looking at the image on this post:

http://www.notebookforums.com/showth...55#post2021555

...and thought: Is that an MXM card I see? Can the 7300 be swapped out of the Z62J for something a bit (quite a bit) more powerful? The chart at the bottom of that image says no, so I'm confused.
