Asus New Release Thread - G1p, G2p, V1Jp and more! - Page 21

Typically shipping is cheapest via local couriers [USPS insteaod of UPS or FedEx]. Therefore you should check with your local post office to find out how much they charge for local customs, etc...

in case some of you haven't read about it yet, here's what Notebookreview.com posted yesterday about upcoming Asus gaming notebooks:

I would LOVE to see the specs on those gaming laptops! They look very, very nice... classier aesthetics then other gaming laptops out there. However, I wonder why all of them have the same boring hinges? Likewise for the V1

I wish more notebooks would use the bamboo hinge design of the W3 series, or the "fold back" design of the W2, especially those that are supposed to be style notebooks, like the V1. The gaming series too, should spare no expense to make the thing look good. I wish there was a 14" model!

W3J?

I still think it's sexier than what ASUS is speculating for the gaming line... although if you're talking about "gaming styled" notebooks, ASUS has some cool designs drawn up.
post #405 of 419
I agree. However, I have to say that I love the metal color of the 17" gaming notebook. If they did the W3 in that color (lid, entire palmrest etc...) and added some ports, it would be excellent.

Some more info regarding upcoming gaming notebooks: http://www.digitimes.com/NewsShow/Ma...ges=PD&seq=208

May not be complete news to all, but does have some relative pricing info.
Add $100-$200 more for US market.

--- Also mentioned to him the F3J headset doesn’t turn off the speaker issue, he doesn’t know either.

--- G1: Mid Dec, $1799;
G2 late Dec ( one week after G1 ), $1899;
G3 first half of 2007, will have 7900 video card, no more than $2500.

--- F5 will be available in Jan to Feb 2007;

--- V1 will be available late Dec or early Jan 2007, with docking station (optional), waterproof KB, finger print reader, 15.4”, 2.7kg…

--- Someone asked about S7Fm, Asus won’t bring it to NA;

--- W6 will come here, 13” with leather finish

--- Ensemble will have 3rd year global warranty option;
Will also have damage protection package, they are both under discussion;

--- I also recommend him 15.4” notebooks full size KB, with separate number key pad, I showed him our LG model, he was very serious on this suggestion, took pictures of my LG keyboard;

--- Also suggested DVI port on more high end models, he said will do;

--- W3J has very little chance to have T7200 CPU;

--- MXM question has an answer of NO, too hard to make all the notebooks with such a good standard, the pipes, screws will be a big problem foe MXM;

--- R1F 2nd battery will come soon, Asus NA has placed the order last week;

--- Suggested more models can take 2nd battery, like A8Js;

The G3 looks very nice I've been considering wether or not to get a new desktop or a new notebook....the G3 may have just tipped the scales....

Looks like you'll have both if you get the G3... It will be more like a portable desktop.
I still prefer a powerful, but light notebook, and a monster desktop for workstation use.

hey, they're even realistic about the battery life!

actually aside from that, those specs look great! Still don't know if the fact the A8Js has the same vid card is going to hurt the G1, but it definitely looks like a nice unit.

It looks like it's time for another laptop so I'm in the market.

Any resellers here know when the S7Fm will be coming? I realize that the G1/G2 is taking most of the attention right now but I am and always will be an ultraportable fanatic.

Picture of S7FM stolen from proportable.

So do any of the retailers know any more information about this laptop? This laptop would be perfect for me for two reasons. I am a photographer lugging around a professional camera by night and a travelling teacher by day. I need this laptop because of how lightweight it is.

Add to the fact that it is the TRUE successor to my beloved S5NE so I need to jump on this right away.

Specific questions:

1. Chasis? Is it carbon fibre like the S5/M5 series or is it more like the W3 which is aluminum brushed?

2. Price range? If the specs are good I'd drop a good amount of canuck bucks easily on it.

3.Battery life? My S5NE with the 9cell battery hit something like 8.5 hours on it. When I am stuck on a train station in Japan it is worth while.

4.Extended battery? I'd like to have a more heavy duty battery working for me

5. Core 2 Duo / Atleast 1 gig Memory? I want to crunch 30 instances of 10 megabyte RAW Nikon D80 files. Most computers crawl to pro camera RAWS.

6.Weight? The S5NE was weightless.

7.GPU DVI/VGA? I'd like to connect it to a 24" dell when I go back to Japan so I can edit my photographs when I am in my apartment.

8. Firewire? This is almost a MUST for me since I need to bring 500gig external HDD's with me for my photography and sanity. Not to mention the fact that Japan's internet speed is ZEUS light speed compared to the donkey slow internet lines here in north america.

9.Dock? I like my USB devices.
post #414 of 419
I asked Asus they said it's not for North America, not much details but I know it's a 11" notebook.
post #415 of 419
To the best of my knowledge, JFvergara isn't in North America, either

Well I am back in Canada right now Dj. I came back for a bit. I'm flattered you remember. I'll be back in Japan soon though, that's why I need a new laptop! I'll be running around with another bunch of ankle biters wanting to learn how to speak English.

Oh the joy!

Anyway man am I dissapointed! I really wanted the S7Fm. Looks like a no go then. Hopefuly they do decide to bring this here, it's a shame that they wouldn't want to bring such a sexy beast this side of the world. I would buy it and whore it in a jiffy. I am scheduled to leave by January 20th of next year so I need (read: want) a new laptop. The plan right now is to have an ultraportable and use that for the first month or so. Then either hook it up to a 24" Dell LCD for photos or buy a 24" imac to play with my photos.

It doesn't seem as if it has been mentioned yet on this forum, so I'll go ahead and post it (taken from Engadget):

http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/09/a...ew-v2-lappies/

Realizing that I may not need the performance of the go7700 in the A8Js, this could provide a great alternative. But, seeing as how overpriced the latest models have been, I'm guessing in the $16-1700 price range. And I'm sure it'll be the same cheap plastic construction the companies keep producing their laptops with. *sigh* For all the money spend, why not offer the consumer something in aluminum or carbon fiber like the Z70va?
post #418 of 419
Rowen, there is a thread about it Here. But from what people have been speculating, this is going to be expensive since it is the sister of the V1J, and that's roughly 2000$ USD, and the V2 is just a smaller version..but we'll see, the graphics, the screen are smaller, hence the price should be lower...but you never know, plus it is too early to guess.

laptop selection in Japan.

JFvergara, hows the laptop selection ib Japan? I have been shopping for months now but have yet to pull the trigger. Im moving to Japan myself for a few years in Feb. and was almost considering waiting to see what was available over there. I have spent much time there, and know things are expensive, but never really shopped laptops. I usually see a lot of newer unusual electroncs there. Djembe ponted out the new G1 to me so im currently looking that over. Im running out of time, decisions, decisions.
