Want to get a 2005fpw and run it off my 9300 with lid closed

I was looking into a dock but it's a usb dock and does not have a video port. I wanted to run the notebook with the lid closed and connected to the monitor. Is that possible?

I'm not sure if this will work.
Go to control panel, select power options, select advanced, select "do nothing" when I close the lid on my portable computer.

I don't have an external monitor hooked up to test this but my optical mouse stays on and it doesn't go into sleep mode.

After I boot up into windows, I hook the VGA cable into the laptop and my CRT shows up perfect. The Laptop screen changes to whatever resolution the CRT supports and you can open and close the lid and it won't do a damn thing. Works perfect.

I'm not comfy with closing the lid on a constantly running laptop. Eventually heatsoak would take effect on the display I believe.

Yup - that's the set up I run - 9300 with 2005FPW - Nice.

In my mind if the 17" isn't big enough for ya, 20" isn't big enough difference; gotta go for the 2405FPW.

get a docking station?

There aren't any docking stations compatible with the 9300/XPS2 that include a video port...

I just tried my 9300 on my 2405FPW: awesome!

There really is a big difference between DVI and VGA: text via DVI is a lot sharper than when using VGA.

Yes, I run my 9300 to a 30" Olevia LCD.... granted, the resolution is only 1280x720, but I have everything in games set to MAX, and I mean MAX. It's fun when playing FPS... but for games like WoW and GW, I like the sharp high-resolution, 17" widescreen just fine. ;-)

I know I found one on their site at one time. I will see if I can find it again.

well, under the 9300 options on the dell website there is a "Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video" option for $130. However, there is no link to it nor is there an image. There doesn't seem to be much on the notebook accessories page either.
